One main idea is that abortion violates religious rules. Many religions believe in the pro-life ideology, but Christianity is the most widely followed, this is believed due to the teachings in the bible. The scripture states, "Now the word of the Lord came to me, saying, 'Before I formed you in the womb, I knew you, and before you were born, I consecrated you; I appointed you a prophet to the nations.'

This belief is explained by the understanding that God made and created each child with no mistakes. Each thing he creates on this earth is intentional, and altering this is going against Gods plan.

Women have many reasons for abortions, some including, but not limited to, financial instability,  rape, and medical issues, among many other reasons. 
The reasoning behind this argument is that abortion does not correct the root issues, such as the prevalence of rape, or the inaccessibility of affordable child care options. One claim made by this group is that post-abortion, some may experience post traumatic stress disorder. This has been disputed in multiple studies, most concluding that, "Women who received an abortion were at no higher risk of PTSD than women denied an abortion." This specific group with this ideology also claims that abortions reduce fertility later in life. The explanation for this claim is that a small percentage of women may experience scar tissue in the uterus when given a specific type of abortion called a dilation and curettage. This abortion type is more commonly utilized in miscarriage cases and accounts for a slim amount of optional abortion cases.

While this is rare there are cases of severe infection, or severe preeclampsia where the mother would likely die if she continues with the pregnancy. In these cases abortion is commonly recommended to save the life of the mother because typically both fetus and mother would pass if the pregnancy carried on. This side of the argument believes the mother should be able to act defensively to save her own life instead of ending both. This idea was also interpreted by The Supreme Court who states, "the unborn fetus had no constitutional rights until the third trimester (24-28 weeks), as it is incapable of functioning independently from the mother until that time." This logic embodies the ideology that early term abortions should be legal since the development has not passed a point in which the fetus could live without using the mothers resources. In the US there are 32,101 pregnancies as a result of rape, half of which are terminated with an abortion (National Library of Medicine). Some abortions also occur due to cases of incest which account for less than 1% of all abortions. In these cases the child is likely to be born with more complications than a child whom is born to two unrelated parents. In cases of both rape or incest, the carrying of the pregnancy is typically more traumatic for the mother than that of a regular pregnancy. York University research states, "These children often develop poor parent-child relationships, as violent rape can affect maternal capacity to care for the child and to form a loving bond. Researchers report that such circumstances may lead to abusive parenting or neglect.
