The crowd was filled with fright,

So close yet only a foul ball

The next pitch was yet another foul 

One more strike and it would all be over

The pitcher throws the ball

Crack! 

The ball flies through the air

The crowd is on their feet, hoping it will make it out 

Bang! The ball hits the light and it's a home run.

The crowd is cheering and the impossible has happened. 

about a man who

did the impossible.

A man who was hurting

in both legs and bleeding,

but he went to the field,

oh he went to the field.

He was bent out of shape,

he was broken and bruised,

he was hurting just like me and you.

He was a last resort to them

but he went bravely,

oh he stepped on that field

and the war began.

The pitcher,

one of the best

against an injured man,

it seemed there was no hope left.

But Gibson,

'ol Gibson,

was there nevertheless.

He stood on that field and he hit that ball,

the others watched it fly overhead

it hit the lights and sparks of hope flew,

and a man

he ran

and ran.
