Living in the age of industrialization was a time that of tyranny, for the working people anyways. Harsh working conditions, low wage pay, no work benefits or workers compensation, children even made basically as slaves. This was the legacy of the age of industrialization. All of this, sparked a revolution that would change the world.

Living in these conditions, sparked something in the hearts of the working people. That of a revolution. Creating unions, which is also in relation of the "I.W.W" (Industrial workers of the world). These people unified in hopes to dismiss of these low wages, harsh working conditions and absurdly long work days.

An example of the built up anger from the industrial working people is "The Great Upheaval" or "The Great Strike". Though it isn't the first event of a strike it is the first mass strike involving a diversity of working people. Taking place in Martinsburg, West Virginia, in 1877, the railroad workers collectively decided to take the trains into the roundhouse and turn the engines off, stating that they wouldn't resume with their duties until their fair pay was restored. This bold act brought upon one of the largest strikes known to date, also bringing on a time where the government sided with "big business" and sent in federal troops to disperse of the riots. More than 100,000 workers had gone on strike that day, shutting down nearly half of the entire nation's railroad system, it may not have showed results hoped by those men and women, but one thing is for sure, it started a true revolution of the industrial age.

With the events of "The Great Strike" the people of America began to become more aware of their power as the workers of The United States. In time they started heightening their requests, wanting more from the business owners thus creating more smaller strike across the country. Things like sabotage of factory equipment, boycott, and simple protest took place in favor of the working people.

Management returns fire.

Of course, in the midst of all of the actions coming from the workers, the Management in an attempt to reverse the effects brought upon their own "attacks". They would have "lockouts" take place, which is basically the opposite of a strike, where the Management wouldn't allow the working people to come to work unless they agree to the pay cut. Another thing that they would do is force all workers to sign a "yellow-dog contract" which stated that the one signing it swore on oath that they wouldn't join a union. They also created ways of countering strikes or protests. One of those ways would be hiring people called "scabs" which were people that would take the place of the previous workers during the strike.

With the immensely large amount of unions growing across the cities of America, opportunities became vulnerable for the people. One man in particular seized the opportunity and used it with much success. William Sylvis in 1866 created the National Labor Union. They fought for basically everything that the working people of America had hoped for

A secret society created in 1869 basically took over that of the leader in organized labor. Founded by Uriah Stephens, they allowed any and all men and women, including African Americans to support their cause. They cared nothing of Gender or Race, and cared more about the purpose that they started. Highly supporting and influenced by the NLU, they gained 750,000 members by 1886 until everything came crashing down.

May 1st, 1886, the obvious rise in the "Knights of Labor" was much acknowledged. At the peak of their organization they decided to hold a strike for the hope in obtaining an 8 hour work day for all "laborers". 3 days later during a rally, a bomb was let off in the middle of the crowd, killing one police officer and injuring many civilians in the proximity. To date nobody knows exactly who threw the bomb, though there have been many speculations. With the events of the Haymarket Affair, members of the "Knights of Labor" quickly diminished.
