Rachel- I think we could further ICC with these activities by having students stop and reflect after each activity to adjust their expectations for their next activity based on the first one, consider whether their responses in the interactions were culturally appropriate and plan how they will respond in the next activity.

Rachel- I think it's really meaningful and powerful to put the research into the hands of the students like these activities do. The results of the research will be diverse and authentic. I also think including the community results in more diverse and meaningful results.

Rachel's Feedback on the Presentation: I think your visual presentation was very professional, tasteful and really guided the discussion well. You both mastered the material and presented in clearly. I liked how your modified activities had the students comparing and analyzing at the end of the activities instead of just at the beginning- that gives them more time and more experience to look back on when they reflect.

I think it is great to get training in ICC because Foreign Language teacher are usually inbetween cultures. But I do feel that it adds another load and puts the responsibility on to us. This should really go to every teacher regardless of specialization because culture is not only a Foreign Language idea. it goes back to the idea that american students do not think they have a culture because they were never taught about it yet every foreign students is aware of their culture.

I think your ideas are great. and like Serena said you can't experiences the culture (food) with just a picture. something needs to be interactive. wether that is to actually cook the food and taste it, or doing field trips/ scavenger hunts. So the interactive peices is super important.

I love Rachel's idea of adding reflection purposely into different parts of the lesson. What a great idea- and completely in-line with what we've been learning.

I really like what Jing said at the end- each of the activities in the article seemed to end with "compare and contrast", but that did not seem like the end of the lesson to you. Reflection is, perhaps, a great way of delving a little further into the process of changing attitudes. At the very least, it would be a good way to get students to examine their own attitudes.

Using the computer and technology to mediate communication and conversation is a great idea. I know it's mostly used to communicate between individuals from different schools or countries, but it could even be used to communicate between different classes in the same school. It could be just that one step further in the process of comparison and reflection.
