In episode two Gar is a fun upbeat character with the world as his oyster. I love Gar like this. He seems content with his life. In episode two I felt a huge shift in this. Gar seems more under pressure and I quite frankly find him annoying. He seems to constantly be on edge. 

One moment that stood out to me extremely was the very last scene. Although it did show a snappy, or even arrogant side to Gar, I did enjoy it. The rest of the play so far has been slightly slow moving for me and didn't draw my attention as much as I would have liked. However in this specific scene with Kate his harsh and abrupt tone is intriguing and caught my attention, which is what I personally like in a play. Saying that I found the rest of the episode very boring and hard to follow.

One thing I did discover was I much prefer Public Gar rather than Private Gar. Private irritates me. How he bursts in to song and is constantly so fast paced almost stresses me out, as strange as that may sound. His train of thought is too messy for my liking. Public speaks at a more casual pace and is a lot more easy to understand. One thing I wish Public did was speak his true emotions and not be so shy, and bottle things up so to speak. If he continues to bottle up his feelings he will have outbursts of anger, like we saw in the last scene with Kate. I never thought we would see S.B express any type of affection towards Gar, which was disappointing for me. Although, to my delight, I was proven wrong. When S.B reminisces on Gar as a young boy it without a doubt pulled on my heartstrings. Throughout the entirety of the play I wasn't too fond on S.B as I had nothing to go off, only that he was a quiet old man who was widowed and couldn't communicate with his son very well. 

Also when S.B questioned if he would manage without his son , my heart almost shattered into a million pieces. The thought of an old lonely man working his life away, while his young and happy son was off building roots on the other side of the world made me feel so much sympathy for S.B, and grief for the relationship, or lack of relationship, between father and son.

One thing that really ground my gears was the ending. Yes I understand Brian Friel's intentions, leaving us questioning did Gar go to Philadelphia in the end? Did he and his father say proper goodbyes? Although I despise when authors/playwriters do this. Like I said I understand why, the text leaves a mark on the reader this way, but I very much dislike it. 

Overall I really enjoyed Episode 3. I appreciated how it gave us a deeper look into characters we hadn't been properly introduced to.
