Before taking up this course, the only thing that I know about architecture is that it is a form of art, fine art that it, and that it focuses on the different building structures and whatnot.

After this module, I learned many interesting things about architecture, all of which I wouldn't have known if I didn't take up this course. I learned that in the classical (Greek and Roman) architecture, they built different architectures because they love it and give it importance, as opposed to now where we build buildings and different kinds of architecture for the sake of using it as an instrument. I learned that architecture is not just about the design and the structure, it also has the spirit, the essence, and the purpose of it. I also learned the evolution of architecture and the different styles that we now enjoy today.

I wish we could've done a more detailed discussion/lecture on architecture. As a person, I'm more of a practical learner. I enjoy reading and learning things about architecture, but not as much as I enjoy drawing or trying to design a building. While we were discussing Classical Architecture, I even tried to draw the different styles/approaches to it. I would've enjoyed the topic more if we were properly taught how to do it, even if it was a brief or a basic one

The artwork that I chose was The Ecstasy of Saint Theresa. This artwork is considered to be one of the most popular counter-reformation artworks. Counter-reformation artworks were used for evangelization and distinguishing Catholicism and Protestantism.

Most people find this artwork beautiful because of its purpose. However, this reasoning cannot be applied to me because I am not Catholic, nor do I believe in saints. This artwork is beautiful because everyone can admire this whether they are Catholic or not. It is objectively beautiful.

It is beautiful because of the elements and principles that were applied to it. Softer features were applied to the Angel, whereas heavier materials were attached to St. Theresa to show the lightness and heaviness of the two. The material and techniques that was used in the central sculpture were also softer, and there is movement in the sculpture, whereas the background lines were edgy and heavy. There was balance between the central sculpture and the background. The background also allows the central sculpture to be emphasized.

All of these elements and principles come together as a whole. Although different techniques and materials were used in this piece, they have contrast, balance, rhythm, and harmony.
