Chinese people are known to have slit or slanted eyes, which, in Bahasa Melayu is "Mata sepet".

Thus, in a way to mock or insult them, people take advantage of their features and call them "Sepet", "Si Sepet" or "Mata Sepet"

The genetics than run through the veins of generations and generations of the ethnic are made into an offensive joke.

Racials slurs dehumanise and belittle the Chinese based on negative stereotypes such as being foreigners to Malaysia.

Psychological Harm

It can damage a victim's mental health, possibly giving distress, anxiety, sadness, stress or even depression.

Physical Health

Stress from the pressure of the insults can bring multiple issues like high blood pressure, headaches, and digestive issues.

Victims also might have sleep disruptions from the stress can lead to the risk of a some chronic conditions.

Negative Impact on the Community

Racism can divide the community into halves over the disagreements, creating a sense of resentment between them.

This also contributes to the normalisation of racism and discrimination of the Chinese in a community, and this likely gets passed down to the next generation and so on if no intervention is done.

Some steps are:

Providing Education or Awareness

Schools can educate students on the impact of racism and how it damages the infrastructure of the diverse community of Malaysia. Pupils should learn to respect each other and cherish our cultural differences

Meanwhile, we can bring awareness to our friends about it and speak up if they use a racial slur.

Self-Reflection

Before adressing other people's issues, we need to take a step back and reflect on our own actions. If you've used a racial slur or went along with a racist joke, take responsibility and strive to be a better person.

Celebrate Diversity

We need to set aside our differences and celebrate for who we are. Learn and respect the cultures of other ethnics, thus creating a healthy and positive community.

Because of this we need to stop them, which is also a necessary step towards ending racism as a whole, creating a world where everyone is treated equally.
