I have been saying to students to put their phones away on corridors (while walking to class) and I either get cheek back or they say that no other teacher tells them to put them away? As an art teacher with no text book there are many students who will not do any homework, research. I should not have to do this as it is their homework but many say that they never do homework for any subject? it seems that many are exempt? so I give them 10 timed minutes at the beginning of class to send me images to print off to draw from. After that I call each one up to help them research. It is also difficult when supervising a class when no work is left/ they have no text books so they think they can just sit on their phones. If its a page from a book to read if teachers could photograph the page/s/ email them to put up on the whiteboard for students to read? Most pupils in this school depend 100% totally on what is both taught and learnt within the classroom- little if any effective study is completed in most of their homes. Having use of a mobile phone to such pupils is further diminishing their willingness and capability to learn.
