10 year ago, my friend and I went to the wine bar. We were drinking, dancing and talking. My friend seemed very happy, but I thought it was very boring. I just drank alone. But I saw a girl who wore the green sweater and had brown hair. She smiled and talked to her friend. She looked very beautiful and very nice. Suddenly, she looked at me and smiled at me. I was so exciting and I guessed that maybe I had a chance with her. Immediately, I said hello and talked to her. Incredibly, I fell in love with your mother when I first met her. I will never forget her smile. Her first impression was very nice. So I spent 4 years to win your mother's heart.

From your father
tonyju66@gmail.com

The first time I met my husband was at a barbecue party when I was 16 years old. At that time, I was a shy girl . At the party, my head was always down eating from my plate. I was not paying attention to anyone. Suddenly, a boy came to me. He had long legs and his pants ware ironed . His pants had good lines and was neat. He slowly walked and came towards to me. At this time, I looked up and saw this boy very politely smiling, and he asked me, ‘’What do you want to eat? I can help you get some food.’’ He was very friendly and such a gentleman. He was different from other boys. My first impression of my husband was that he had long legs and his pants were ironed and neat. I had my head down the entire time because I was so shy to look at him.

I was only about 4 years old.
Miss Lin had bright eyes, shoulder-length hair, wore a beautiful dress and high heeled shoes. She always had a smile on her face. She sang like an angle and played the piano very well. At that time, in my young mind, I imagined "Maybe she is a princess."
Of course not, she was not a princess. In fact, she was a piano teacher.
However, at that time, she was not teaching me because I was too young.
Miss Lin was my sister's piano teacher. In my sister's piano class, I always envied to see my sister sitting in front of the piano and playing the piano. I sat in front of the table playing the puzzle and reading the books.
After few months, I began to learn the piano with Miss Lin.

I met my boyfriend online two years ago. We chatted online about a week. We had lots of things in common. We had same family values and personality. Then we decided to meet at a bar on Saturday in Pasadana. When I walked into the bar, he had already waited for me. He gave me a hug and said hello to me. He had a good smile 😊 and a very modest manner. He pulled the chair for me and bought me my favorite drink 🍹. I couldn’t speak English fluently in that time. He was a patient and gentle person. It was really nice to talking with him. He introduced himself , his family and his company to me. I was interesting to know him more . We hit it off on our first date.
Anna

First impression of my best friend The first impression of my best friend was that she was easygoing and quiet. She is my middle school classmate. At the same time, she is my neighbor too. I was really attracted to her from the beginning because she is the best student in my class. At the beginning, i took the initiative to chat with her, but she just gave a sample answer and then continued on reading her book. I thought, "Maybe, she don’t like to be a friend with me." After school, I heard someone calling my name, when I was on the way home. I saw her and talk with her. After that, i found i had many common interests with her. We became the closest friend since then.

I met her through another friend of mine. She stood out to me as very tall and elegant. From her outfit I could tell that she cares a lot about her fashion. We chatted and I found out that she worked as a housing agent. She kept getting calls and I immediately thought that she was very hard working and seemed like someone who knew a lot about the world. She often smiled and was great at keeping the conversation going. I realized that by keeping a conversation with her, I learned a lot. We had a lot in common and it felt like an easygoing time. I started to enjoy talking to her and kept in mind that we would definitely chat and keep in touch more. At the end of the day, I just remembered her good sense of style and how busy she was.

-Tiffany Z.

It was a long time ago when I was in the second year of college. I had lived in my uncle's house for one year. Due to the long distance to go to school, I had to find a dormitory to live near the school and also enjoy the college life. Several days later, I found an apartment which was just in front of my school. What an amazing thing that I could sleep late to go to school. So I tried to ask someone who lived in the apartment and I knocked the door. There came a big guy with a beard who smiled at me. At that moment, I thought that I met an evil-doer, and I felt a little scared. He asked me what I wanted and how he can help me. I told him what I needed. It was so surprising that he was my classmate but I had no idea about him. We laughed and joked with each other. We introduced ourselves and discussed the funny things happened to the other classmates and teachers . We also knew that we came from the same hometown. This is a miraculous encounter and then we became best friends until now. Although we are in different places now, we still take care and encourage each other.
Thomas

I was excited and asked him a lot of questions. Then, he said, "You look like my daughter". "You are my father also". Finally, I had another father in the U.S. that was him.

I work as a waitress in a restaurant. I meet many people everyday, but I can't remember them. I also have a little face blindness. One day, an old couple came in with an unhappy expression. The old lady wore a strong makeup and a purple lip makeup who looked like the stepmother of the Snow White. Their facial expression made me a little scare. I really didn't want to serve them such as my workmate, but my work is a server. I walked to them and gave them the menu with a smile. When they were eating I noticed that they only had one drink on the table. Then, I brought a cup of warm water to them. The old man suddenly smiled and talked with me like a genial grandpa. After that, the old couple had a happy expression on their face. When them finished their dinner and left, the old lady came to me with a smile and said "good-bye, Houie ."
I want to express that first impression is important but sometimes it isn't the right way to appraise one person. We have to communicate with others.
HUIYI

Her daughter was going to deliver her baby soon in a few day, so we went to her daughter’s house to help. we helped by preparing her diet and taking care of her for one month after her birth. At the end, my sister went back home to Taiwan earlier then expected and was sad. She left early because she could not handle the culture shock she experienced in Texas. First, her daughter drank iced water. Second , she could not take Chinese herbal medicine or any food added rice wine because her husband’s family did not believe in Chinese practices. My sister thought that our Chinese traditions would be good for the mother and especially who are feeding new born baby ，but the in- laws thought differently. This was such a shock to my sister and it caused a lot of tension between our two families which made everyone not happy

The first time that I came to LA I stayed with my cousins in West Covina. One day, I spent 2 hours on bus to arrive to Santa Monica Pier and I needed to return early because it would be the same to come back.
I went to Downtown few times because I could visit museums, historic and interesting places but, it was a nightmare when the stop of the bus was changed the place or the bus arrived late because sometimes I needed to make a connection with other bus or train and then I lost the connection.
It was very frustrating for me because in Mexico city, you could move easily around the city on bus, taxi, subway, metrobus and the cost is cheaper than here.
Lisett

First visiting Los angles about 12 years ago, there was an unforgettable experience about "car seat" happening to me . I remembered that It was the first day my wife and I arrived here and we decided to go to a supermarket for buying some foods and baby infant Formula . Due to the first day , we brought our son who was 11 months old without sitting on the " car seat" by driving our rental car to there. I didn't think it was a big deal to take care of. After we finished shopping and just walked outside of the supermarket , I saw a policeman stood right near our car waiting for us. We were scared and waited for a while to see the policeman if he would go away later, but he didn't. About 20 minutes later, we encouraged ourselves to go to our car and asked what had been happening that he should wait for us. The policeman told us that someone had seen us not using " car seat" to bring our baby here. It was a big issue and illegal here and should be prohibited. The most serious punishment is taking my child away to a child protection organization. We were so anxious and scared just like " an ant on a hot pot" . We begged him and explained what was happening to us. He was a generous and nice man who forgave us and told us to buy a new " car seat" in a nearest grocery store. It was a happy ending.
At that moment , I realized that " obey laws and disciplines , and don't take any chances" was so important to live here. There are always just people watching you and reminding you what you do is incorrect. A terrible but important thing to share with you.
Thomas

Unexpected, the car stopped near me and the driver gave me a signal to pass. And that was not only one time, the drivers here always yield to the pedestrians. I was shocked.
Vietnamese superstition

1) The first day of Tet
The first day of the Vietnamese New Year is a very important day for most traditional families. They believe that everything must be cleaned before this day arrives as a tardy cleanse can sweep away all of the family’s good luck and prosperity. They are even concerned with who should first set foot in their house on the first day of Tet. Apparently, it should be someone whose lunar birth year does not rival the owners. For example, people born in the year of the Tiger, Monkey, Snake or Pig will probably not be welcomed at one another’s house on that day.
2) How to remedy bad business
The commencement of anything seems excessively important to many Vietnamese. To many superstitious street vendors, the success of their day is determined by how it starts and by their first customer. When you are the first person to come by their cart and you do not buy anything, they might consider you a harbinger of bad luck. To redeem it, they would burn a piece of paper and wave or hop over it nine times, as to clear the air and burn out all hovering, ill-fated karma. There are other practices that can ensure good luck as well, such as scattering rice grains and salt.
3) Reverse your bad luck with fetus eggs from a duck
Many Vietnamese believe that eating duck fetus eggs can help bring back good luck, assuming you’re in a deficit. If you’re having a bad day, eat one of these embryotic delicacies and you will be right with the world. But beware, only eat them in odd numbers or else the bad luck will return!
Why in odd numbers? In Vietnamese, the word "fetus eggs" is "trứng vịt lộn" and "lộn" means reverse – hence if you eat one egg, it will turn your bad luck back to good. Eat another and it reverses back to bad luck. Who would have thought that superstition comes with logical mathematics?
https://saigoneer.com/saigon-culture/1997-very-superstitious-3-popular-vietnamese-superstitions
4) Don’t express lavish admiration for a new baby, because the devils might hear you and steal the child because of his desirability.
5) Do not place chopsticks in food and leave them there (only do this action for dead people).
6) Do not hand someone a toothpick. This action means separation or dissociation.

When you build a house, you have to ask permission to the spirit of the land. Cambodians believe that there are spirits everywhere, a remembrance of their ancient pantheism through Brahmanism. Nobody goes to live in a new house if there is not a previous ceremony to honor the spirit of the land. The ceremony includes food for the spirit, incense and holy water spreading.
