The reflection on the role of teachers

The article emphasizes the transformative potential of Artificial General Intelligence (AGI) in education, highlighting its ability to personalize learning and enhance pedagogical strategies. AGI's capacity to process vast amounts of data enables it to identify individual student needs, adapt instructional content in real time, and provide immediate feedback, thereby fostering a more engaging and tailored learning environment. Furthermore, its role in promoting inclusive education and bridging the digital divide underscores the importance of equitable access to technological advancements, ensuring that all students can benefit from these innovations.

As AGI increasingly becomes integrated into educational settings, the traditional role of the English teacher should undergo a significant redefinition. Rather than solely disseminating knowledge, teachers can evolve into mentors, facilitators, and emotional guides who leverage AGI tools to support diverse learning styles and foster critical thinking and creativity. The teacher's unique human qualities—such as empathy, cultural awareness, and the ability to build meaningful relationships—remain irreplaceable, serving as a vital complement to AI-driven personalized instruction.

In my view, the inclusion of AGI in education necessitates a shift toward teacher roles that emphasize emotional intelligence, critical reflection, and adaptive mentorship. Teachers should focus on guiding students in developing lifelong learning skills, ethical understanding, and social-emotional competencies that AI cannot provide. Moreover, educators must be equipped with ongoing professional development to effectively collaborate with AGI technologies, ensuring they can maximize benefits while addressing ethical concerns like data privacy and bias. Ultimately, reimagining the English teacher’s role as a partner in learning, rather than just a knowledge provider, can lead to a more dynamic, inclusive, and human-centered educational experience.
