Historical mistrust alongside limited cultural safety in mainstream services reduce engagement and reinforce preference for community-controlled organisations such as SWAMS, who provide holistic, culturally grounded care. Geographic spread across the region, combined with transport challenges and cost of travel, restricts access, particularly for those who are in the more outlying areas of Bunbury. Socio economic disadvantage, digital exclusion and complex care pathways compound these issues. This all leads to timely and equitable healthcare access more difficult for Aboriginal families.
