I’ve loved so many of my teachers but I would have to say my first grade teacher, Ms. Marcus. I had an incredibly hard time learning how to read and she was patient and kind and never made me feel dumb.

Sr. Veronica made me appreciate learning and shared her passion of history and current events. She is the reason I went into teaching social studies. She passed away two weeks ago at the ripe old age of 92 of natural causes.

Mrs. Tolin my 3rd grade teacher- She lived across a field from me and during the summer she'd invite my friend and I over for hotdogs and she'd make us necklaces. She was endlessly patient.

He was my 5th grade teacher, and he provided me a list of action items I needed to do in order to get my act together between elementary and middle school.

My senior ELA teacher. I didn't appreciate her as much as a should have at the time, but she treated us all like we were geniuses and intellectuals and we did fun projects and discussions.

My fashion illustration teacher Mr. Perillo and my social studies teacher Mr. Bazer.

Mr. Perillo taught me so much when it comes to drawing, especially figure drawing. He was funny and eccentric (and designed clothes for Marilyn Monroe). Mr. Bazer just made class fun and interesting. He also used to ask us if we liked his tie in Spanish.

Mr. Schneider, our journalism teacher. We ran the school newspaper out of a loft in high school like a professional one, ate our lunches there. He taught skills and then coached us through our own imagination and ethics, and exposed us to a lot of debates, experts, and real life experiences. My brother and I both attribute our careers to him (my first one in film, and his in journalism).

She was genuinely kind and really cared about her students. I loved her class so much I was inspired to become a biologist. That didn’t work out, but Ms. Guido was great!

Mr. Vellucci taught me how to read content and connect it to culture. Mr. Sheehan taught me to read symbolism cross culturally. Dr. Sanchez taught me how to read the author and historical context into both, and showed me poetry isn't terrible.

6th Grade - Mrs. Holmes - she was beautiful and loved reading and writing and I was her favorite!

Truly the most passionate educator I've ever had. He taught us never to kill spiders, how to play scrabble, and supported my love for reading. Also, we had frogs in our class and they had babies. Every single 5th grader was given a frog and mine is still kicking. We still keep in touch :)

OH & Ms. Dasilva. She was my elementary school music teacher. She passed away suddenly in the 5th grade, but I distinctly remember her love for Betty Boop. She literally looked like Pocahontas!

I earned a 100 on the regents this year plus it was a tough year, we had a fellow classmate pass away. But I always enjoyed her class!

Professor Smith was my ELA teacher in 10th grade. She was amazing because she was so sweet, she worked so hard with individual students even if you felt like you weren’t struggling and she brought out the best in you. She gave every single person in her class a nickname and would call you it until the end of the year. She was also the first person to tell me I was a good writer.

11th grade - My AP U.S. History teacher, Mrs. Malark, who made content relevant and made me work harder than any teacher had before (she also showed us the movie Life is Beautiful, which to this day is one of my favorites).

Last but not least - my mom! She was my 11th grade ELA teacher and just the best teacher in life, too :).

Dr. Palm. She encouraged me as a writer and a speaker. She showed me things I didn’t even know about myself.

Ms. Romero, my first grade teacher. My sister and I went to first grade together - I had to go with her because she didn't want to go by herself because we just moved to a place where we didn't know the language. Ms Romero was so kind and made us feel at home. She even invited my family to have dinner with them to welcome us to the neighborhood.

Señora Truyols, one of my high school Spanish teachers. She always had us laughing and would tell us stories about Mallora, where she grew up. I eventually went to Mallorca and thought of her throughout the trip.

I went to a really small public high school upstate. They experimented with a small group of us taking HS math courses in MS. So Mr. Harvey ended up teaching me Pre Calc, AP Calc AB, AP Calc BC, and AP Stats in high school. Every year he learned the course to be able to teach it to us and our class size was maybe 10 students. I feel like my entire HS experience was either spent in his classroom or on a sports field. We also played cards in his room everyday at lunch and I'm a huge cards fan =)

8th grade teacher who was direct and had a sense of humor, and the first serious math teacher I've ever had. He pushed me academically and placed me in honors math.

Ms. Reinhart - She has no idea that I credit her for the reason why I am a math teacher ❤️ She's brilliant and kind and funny. She was everything. I've tried looking her up so many times.

Also I had 2 English teachers that brought readings to life... Ms. Kavanaugh for making her content come alive by singing her way through English class and for teaching us how to study! (She had an incredible voice! She played Annie on Broadway/Pepper in the original movie). And Mr. Chamberlin for the texts he had us read and the way he read them with a wiffle ball bat. Fighting to stay in his class made me a better person. He somehow made reading Milton fun as high school seniors!

Ms Kutch and Ms Noll. They loved what they did every day and looked forward to shaping the minds of the youth. Made me want to do the same and feel the reward from doing so.

She was my 7th and 8th grade Language Arts teachers - she was quirky and told great stories and always had us working on publishing our school wide lit mag. In her class we wrote for "money, fame, and glory!"

Mrs. Kobren- 5th grade, made me fall in love with reading (Starting with Narnia, she also gave us Teddy Grahams when we did well on spelling and writing)

Mr. Wansor - 7th grade- life lessons 101, 102, 103 every day. At the end of the year he gave the entire class a 100 and asked us to look in the mirror and challenge ourselves to determine if it was deserved and why. I didn't get it then, but definitely did later.
Mr. Uretzky- 9th grade Math- threw erasers at us when we got it wrong and helped me figure out who I didn't want to be.
Mrs. Beckford- HS 10th AP ELA - life lessons and literature and a 1000 revisions till you got it right.
Mr. Oilman, AP US History. We never wrote a single "note" down, we sat in a semi-circle, he sat at a desk, and never got up ONCE, we talked and talked and wrote papers and more papers and the entire class got 5's on the exam. He was brilliant.

My advisor at SUNY Corltand was always there for me when I needed him. He even let me stay at his siblings house in Cortland for free in between semesters while I took a winter course!

I LOVED READING THESE SO MUCH, it made my day. Happy Monday everyone, such beautiful stories.
