Musical Inventory

In this chapter Ratliff likes to explain musical inventory as someone or something that has originality or something that sets them apart from the rest. Ratliff uses examples like Mariah Carry to show who would want to keep such albums. Although Mariah was a great artist she didn't do very many new things. It just allows the listener to pick on which performer they think is the most qualified to hold a spot of the bookshelf of records. This makes artist want to find something different in their music. Although I can see this as a major musical element it does not really have much effect on me.

Although I think Ratliff provides many key points that support his argument it just does not seem like a very important musical element to me. I can see how musical inventory is a key part in the business side of the music industry it does not affect listeners that just listen to songs to pass time.

This quote I chose to show how sometimes something is original from being unoriginal. By taking something that is old and putting a twist on it, it allows it to have a new life with new meaning.
