Ratliff uses examples like Mariah Carry to show who would want to keep such albums. Although Mariah was a great artist she didn't do very many new things. It just allows the listener to pick on which performer they think is the most qualified to hold a spot of the bookshelf of records. This makes artist want to find something different in their music.
