1.	You need to give some background information on why this person is seen as a ‘Truly Radical Change Agent’

Martin Luther King Jr was originally born Michael Luther King but then changed his name, he was born January 15th 1929 and was assassinated on April 4th 1968, he was supposed to perform a speech about the sanitation work strike on the following day. His family had a history of being Pastors at the Ebenezer Baptist Church in Atlanta, with Martins Grandfather serving as pastor from 1914 to 1931, and his Father from 1960 till his death in 1984. At this time King was acting as co pastor, until in 1954 he became pastor of the Dexter Avenue Baptist Church in Montgomery, Alabama. King was seen as a truly radical agent because of who and what he stood up for, this is best shown in his famous speech "I Have a Dream" which was spoken in 1963 in-front of 250,000 people at the "March on Washington". King fought for the rights of black Americans for years, he was the president of the Southern Christian Leadership Conference (SCLC) until his assasination in 1968. The SCLC is an African-American civil rights organisation whom the church and King played a big role in. In King's speech he talks about having a dream of both white and black Americans getting along here is one of his lines "I have a dream that one day on the red hills of Georgia, the sons of former slaves and the sons of former slave owners will be able to sit down together at the table of brotherhood". These are just some out of many reasons why Martin Luther King Jr is seen as truly radical.

4. What have you found most inspiring about the person you have studied and how have they challenged your own worldview?

Martin Luther King Jr has inspired me to look at how people are treated and how we are all equal and are no different from each other. King has inspired me to have more confidence and to stand up for what is right even if millions of others don't agree. Kings persivation to fight for equal rights and for African Americans to be de segregated is truely inspirational. King got arrested in April of 1963 for leading the worlds largest civil rights protest in Alabama, which shows how many followers he had and how many other people wanted to have equal rights. I feel as if this shows outstanding leadership and proves how inspirational he is not just to me but to the people who were with him on the day of that protest. King would have really inspired all them people to protest otherwise he wouldn't have gained such a following. Finally King is utterly inspirational to me as when he failed he tried again and again, he never gave up. I'll finish on when King traveled to India in 1956 he gained a victory with the bus boycott, basically he stopped the segregation of where black and white Americans were not allowed to sit next to each other. King inspired me to never give up and that you will always find success.

3. Compare and contrast their worldview with the worldview they had to fight against?

Martin Luther King Jr was a pastor of christianity. He took parts of the bible and weaved them into his speeches. King's worldview was to see equality around the world, meaning no racial segregation and for everyone to have equal rights, though this wasn't the case for the White Americans as they believed that the African Americans were not allowed any rights. They believed that segregation was okay, that it was acceptable to have "black" and "white" toilets and that both black and white people were not allowed to sit next to each-other. King knew that this was not acceptable and that there was no difference between them other than the pigment of their skin, so he stood up and tried to change the worldview that the White Americans had of them. Religion was a major part that influenced King especially Gandhi's policy of non violence. King used bits of the bible into his speeches so that even the religious people could relate to him in some way, and understand him more. This is one bible quote King used in his speech, Galatians 3:28 (NIV): “There is neither Jew nor Gentile, neither slave nor free, nor is there male and female, for you are all one in Christ Jesus.” This quote from the bible is exactly what King was trying to get everyone to understand, that everyone is equal no matter the label or the pigment of your skin.

2. Evaluate how much they are truly ‘Radical’

Martin Luther King Jr fought for the African-Americans during a time where they were being oppressed, racial segregation was a huge issue in America during the 50's-60's. In April of 1963 King lead the largest Civil Rights protest to have occurred, at which he was arrested for leading the demonstration in Alabama. He remained in prison for 11 days at Birmingham Jail, Alabama. During this time he wrote "Letter from Birmingham Jail". While King was in prison, he was seen as an outsider as he was from Atlanta and was holding protests in Alabama, his letter addresses the fact that "injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere.”. Even while King was in prison he was still trying to change things on the outside, he was fighting for freedom in a place where he had none. King's "Letter from Birmingham Jail" became one of the key texts from the Civil Rights movement and paved the way for his speech at the “March on Washington” later that year. King was rallying against half the population, white Americans, who thought that segregation was appropriate. He worked hard to change the thoughts of these people by using excerpts from texts such as “The Bible” which the white Americans believed in, in order to have the rights of African- Americans recognised.
