Problem - People is Denton, TX, USA are afraid of contaminated, and they know that there are Still drought conditions in their area. The city is required by the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality to test 50 samples of water over three years. There were no samples taken from Jan. 1, 2013 to Dec. 31, 2015. The city is not sure of the quality of drinking water consumed during those dates.

Solution - People could boil water before they drink and use it because boiling water would kill of germs and anything harmful that could be in the water. Authorized a contract for design services from Garver, LLC for improvements to the Lake Lewisville Water Treatment Plant for $520,920.

Explanation - By making improvements to the water treatment facilities then they would be able to take out all of the contaminants in the water.

An estimated 360,000 Californians are served by water systems with unsafe drinking water.
In many communities, people drink, shower, cook and wash dishes with water containing excessive amounts of pollutants, including arsenic, nitrates and uranium.

--Solution 2: Now, after years of half solutions, the state is considering its most comprehensive actions to date. Gov. Jerry Brown has asked the Legislature to enact a statewide tax on drinking water to fix wells and treatment systems in distressed communities. Residents and businesses would pay a tax on their monthly water bills, while agriculture would contribute through taxes on fertilizer purchases and fees paid by dairy farmers and feedlot operators. For the average Californian, the tax would mean paying an additional $11.40 per year.

--Explanation of solution 2: The people in California would have to pay an additional amount of money on taxes, but that money would go towards having better drinking water. They are being forced to pay that tax by the government.

On April 25, 2014, Flint, Michigan switched from water purchased from the City of Detroit to water pumped from the Flint River as a way to save money. It didn't take long before Flint residents started complaining that something was wrong with the water. In addition to disease-causing bacteria and even carcinogens, Flint's drinking water was loaded with lead.

Solution 3: Flint re-connected to Detroit's water system. Like water, money has been pumped into Flint – over half a billion dollars from the federal government, from the state, and from private donations. All of the city's lead pipes are being replaced.

--Explanation of solution 3: Multiple studies showing lead levels below the federal limit for more than two years. Although using filters is still recommended, the science seems to say Flint water is safe.

Nearly two-thirds of test wells in central Minnesota have found groundwater contaminated with excessive levels of nitrates, according to a state report issued on the eve of Gov. Mark Dayton's water summit. The report was commissioned by the Legislature and produced by the Minnesota Pollution Control Agency (MPCA) in an effort to assess the health of groundwater amid rising concern over pollution from agriculture, consumer products and urban development.

-Solution 4: Gov. Mark Dayton announced a $220 million initiative to make Minnesota water safer. “We have to face the fact that in Greater Minnesota there are a lot of small towns where the water is not safe to drink,” Dayton said.
Even in newer homes, the MDH warns contaminants can leech from pipes into drinking water. Two tips they recommend for all homeowners: If you haven’t used your water for several hours, let it run for one minute to clear out impurities, and if you’re cooking, start with cold water not hot — hot water can contain more impurities than cold.

--Explanation of solution 4: The Minnesota Government decided to spend a lot of money on making MN water clean and pure. They recommend people run the water for a minute to get out the bad water and then use it.

In Upcountry Maui, officials discovered the drinking water has high levels of bacteria, or nitrates. "The basic point is, we're drinking wastewater that I don't think everybody wants to do. The water is safe to drink. That doesn't mean we don't have a problem," Deputy Attorney General Eduard Bohlen told lawmakers. "The water overall is safe to drink, according to maximum contaminant levels, or MCLs, in every part of the state. There are concerns, like in Upcountry Maui. It hasn't reached maximum levels yet, but the levels we're seeing in water to well shows a level of concern for us," explained Keith Kawaoka, deputy director for the Department of Health.

--Solution 5: In Kahaluu, officials found 740 nearby cesspools contributed to sewage contaminated surface waters, where there have been reports of skin infections. The health department told lawmakers that federal guidelines state all cesspools, including residential, must be eliminated by 2050. It will cost $1.75 billion.

--Explanation of solution 5: they will eventually get rid of all of the cesspools that are causing the contamination by putting a ton of money towards removing them.
