         <description><![CDATA[<div>Divergent plate boundaries are when plates separate or divide.&nbsp; When these happen under the ocean, mid ocean ridges are created. When this happens on land, it becomes a rift valley. Subduction zones occur when one or both of the tectonic plates are composed of oceanic crust.          <description><![CDATA[<div>Two plates sliding past each other forms a transform plate boundry. One of the most famous transform plate boundaries occurs at the San Andreas fault zone, which extends underwater. Earthquakes are common along these faults. The movement of the plates is horizontal. They can happen underwater or on land, and crust is not destroyed or created.<br><br></div><div>Because of friction, the plates cannot smoothly move past each other.
