S.M.A.R.T. Goals

Specific:

One goal for the math subject this term is to pass it with good grades, which means scoring decent scores in the given assessments and in the achievement test, similar to last school year's third term. Additionally, another one is to fully understand all of my math topics for this term, ensuring I master each one so that I can apply my understanding about them well for my learnings in the following term if they will still be relevant. Lastly, my final goal is to balance the "fun" and "stress" I encounter in studying math, wherein I must not overcommit myself too much or at least still value some self-care.

Measurable:

My results on the upcoming math exams will show whether or not I have understood the topics in question in a sufficient manner. Therefore, I will have met the objectives and desired learning outcomes of the lessons or modules prepared for this term if I achieve great results.

Attainable:

1) Accomplishing diligent study, like taking notes, reciting aloud during class sessions, reviewing my textbook, and doing my assignments, I can accomplish my first two goals. I will be able to grasp each math lesson with these actions, guaranteeing that I comprehend the concepts and lectures in every module and increasing the chance to be likely to obtain a decent final Math mark by the end of the term. Furthermore, I can prevent stressfully "cramming" or procrastinating on my math assignments by doing all my assigned projects as soon as they appear in the Google Classroom, which will help me achieve my third objective. Thus, if I finish them early, I can devote more time to my other assignments from other topics or use that spare time to unwind by engaging in hobbies or favorite pastimes.

2) I can accomplish these goals with the aid of my teachers and peers. For instance, if I ever need help with a subject or some assignment, I can consult my teacher, as she can assist me in figuring out how to solve some of the lessons' difficulties that I don't fully comprehend. Additionally, my classmates and I may organize group study sessions or discuss particular topics together so that we are "on the same page" as we strive to learn and understand math.

Relevant:

These objectives are essential for my academic growth. In order to graduate from the Ateneo de Manila Junior High School with the other Grade 10 students, I must pass all of my subjects, particularly math in this case, with excellent scores. In addition, handling math in a fun and stress-free approach can improve my focus and even make me love math and other aspects of my academic career.

Timebound:

I could need the entire term to complete these objectives. Ergo, I need to put in a lot of effort and sacrifice to achieve these three goals, especially the first two. To be more precise, I need to keep up a positive study attitude and cultivate some helpful learning habits. Additionally, I'll be motivated to accomplish my S.M.A.R.T. goals by reminding myself of the primary reward after overcoming all the struggle - passing the term with great grades.

SELF RATE:

Firstly, in terms of my first goal, I would rate myself a 3 out of 5, with the latter number being the highest possible mark, for even though I did achieve a few good scores in some of my math tasks this term, I still scored some really low ones, such as in my first long test, wherein I reached only 28.5 out of 36. Nevertheless, I promise to improve and deliver better during the next term.

Secondly, for my second goal, I would rate myself a 5 out of 5, as I ensured I thoroughly understood most of the topics this term. Sure, I may have scored low in some tasks previously, which is disappointing. In spite of that, those scores gave me the courage or that "motivating push" to work harder and more seriously in trying to master learning my lessons to the extent that I can create my own set of notes for the entire term from the "back of my mind" or stock knowledge with great accuracy.

Thirdly, in terms of my last goal, I would rate myself a 4 out of 5, as I did not "overcommit myself too much" and "still valued some self-care" throughout the term. I made sure to provide an hour of math study and skills honing each 1 to 2 days while also spending the succeeding hour achieving relaxing activities that eliminate stress, like playing Badminton.

An unfortunate misconception I had was related to determining how to write certain restrictions to express certain inequalities in parts of parabolas. I swapped the rules for what to write, whether the restriction is supposed to be in the "OR statement" form or "a<x<b" form; I learned that this was a misconception when my classmate showed me his notes and I realized my notes on the said restriction writing part were a little bit different and incorrect compared to this. Thus, I addressed this misconception by copying my classmate's correct notes on my notebook and by also reanswering some questions from the previously given worksheets on quadratic functions and inequalities.

It may seem odd to some, but the most challenging task for me this term was the first long test regarding functions basics. Personally, it was tough for me since, by the time I took it, I was just about to fully recover from a short cold, hovering around only 80% of the recovery process. Therefore, I was not at my best and genuine performance when I accomplished that long task; I struggled with managing time a lot as well, as it was the first long test I ever encountered in Grade 10, and I still had not fostered a proper "mental state or rhythm" before accomplishing tests, which rendered lots of anxiety in those moments. Nonetheless, the score that came after such an experience reminded me of the general idea that Grade 10's math and pace would be more difficult and tiresome than the previous grade, which served as my inspiration to put more effort into studying, persevering, and accomplishing my succeeding tasks. In addition, I could have dealt with this challenging exam more appropriately by answering some practice problems before the make-up session, which might have helped my mental state moving forward, and by doing a last-minute browse on my notes prior to the test, as that could have possibly helped me retain my memory of the lessons I have learned thus far.
