Initially, the Aztecs are subjects to the Tepanecs but still enjoy in the tributes of the conquered territories.

I choose this event because it shows that the Aztec started as a simple group of mercenaries. They were subjects to other tribes but would soon be masters of other tribes.

Description: Origins + Patient

Itzcoatl begins his empire by “changing history.” He burns books that tell of their history and pays orators, a public speaker, to tell a new history of the Aztec people. And says this about slaves, “it is their duty to provide the hearts and blood of their prisoners of war to the gods so the sun would have the fuel it needed to rise and light up the earth every morning.”

This is important because it shows the Aztecs wanted other people to believe they were important and that their gods needed human blood to survive.

Description: Merciless + Deceitful

Tlcaelel was a general in the Aztec empire. He created something called the “Flower Wars.” Two cities fight staged battles - usually Tlacopan and Tenochtitlan –for the singular goal to take prisoners to sacrifice.

I choose this because this was a way for the Aztecs to hold "gladiator fights" as entertainment for the people. It also allowed them to get POWs that they could sacrifice to the gods.

Description: Cunning + Warriors

It is important because this is where all of the Emperors lived and was the biggest city in the Empire. Population 200,000.

Blue - Tlacopan was another city in the Aztec Empire. This city would fight with Tenochtitlan in staged fights to win slaves for sacrificing.
