A closed-loop insulin system is a device that automatically measures blood glucose and delivers the appropriate amount of insulin for a patient with type 1 diabetes. This allows the patient to have better control of their blood glucose. This allows a patient to have more flexibility with activities they enjoy because they don't have to worry about hyperglycemic or hypoglycemic episodes as much with the "artificial pancreas."

In my opinion, the closed-loop insulin delivery system could be a life saver for many type 1 diabetics. It can control their blood glucose easier and maintain a steady glucose reading as opposed to intermittent blood glucose monitoring and delivery of insulin. This could help older individuals with poor eyesight and dexterity and help them manage their disease better and give them a better quality of life. This can also help younger individuals diagnosed with diabetes to remain active and do the things they enjoy the most because they don't have to worry as much about hypo/hyperglycemic episodes.
