In this article from October 2016, the two authors discuss the need for a flipped classroom. According to them, the flipped classroom "reverses the traditional learning environment by delivering instructional content, often online, outside of the classroom." They express the fact that students are able to work at their own pace; students who are excelling are able to continue to move on, while struggling students get a more "personalized instruction." Krishnan and Priya then go on to give the results of their research design and the data they collected. They gave a pre and post test based on what they were teaching- their findings concluded that the flipped classroom had a positive affect on the student achievement.

Megan Sullivan- Summary 2- What 'Flipped' Classrooms Can (and Can't) Do for Education by E. Graham

In this article, Graham sites both positives and negatives when it comes to implementing a flipped classroom. A few of the positives: Johnson found that the students in his class were watching the videos more than once. This shows that students were going back more than one time to make sure they understood the lesson. The second point he made is that parent involvement is higher. Not only are the students able to view the videos, but the parents are able to view them as well. This limits how much parents tell teachers "I don't understand what you are doing and therefore I can't help my child." The third positive is that there is more 1v1 time for teachers and students, especially the struggling students.
A few negatives: implementing a flipped classroom is based on using the internet. If the internet is down or the site in which you are posting videos is not working, then the students will be unable to access the information. Students not having internet access at their homes is also an issue teachers face, especially in lower income districts. The third negative is that it is still lecture-based and does not leave much room for hands-on activities for the students to complete.

B. Tucker bases his article on research on Jonathan Bergmann and Aaron Sams (authors of Flip Your Classroom). Tucker expresses that there is not just "one" model to follow for flipping the classroom, however it is based on teachers creating videos and instruction for students to watch before class. This then gives the students time to use their knowledge and apply it to problem solving and working through problems during class time. Teachers then have the ability to work with all students, especially struggling students. One tricky part of creating the videos- creating a short video based on the lesson in a clear manner. Sites like Khan Academy are wonderful references to refer to in making these videos.

According to Bill Tucker, "there is no one model, the core idea is to flip the common instructional approach: With teacher-created videos and interactive lessons, instruction that used to occur in class is now accessed at home, in advance of class. Class becomes the place to work through problems, advance concepts, and engage in collaborative learning. Most importantly, all aspects of instruction can be rethought to best maximize the scarcest learning resource—time."
