Answer: We think that on the poem the passbook connects to the story The Noose and the way he hides his identity is similar to Lily in One Day Lily One Day. It also connects to all the stories because they are all about RACE, racism, and unfairness for those who are black.
2. Answer: We think that irony is shown in three sentences such as "Document of my existence" showing that they think of him as something else and need to know that he is black and not pretending to be white. Then there is when he dresses up with a tie and suit hoping to be treated differently in a good way. We also think there is irony in "barred by a commissionaire" in this we see white privilege, DISCRIMINATION, his feelings and his perspective of this action.
3. Answer: The tone is aggressive especially towards the end of the poem. But we also get a sad-ish tone when he thinks he is "barred". Which is OPPRESSION.
4. Answer: In the beginning of the story the tone is a happy and positive tone, then towards the middle it gets a bit strict and sad-ish and finally to become an aggressive tone, when she thinks of him as a thief and laughs at him.
5. Answer: Because it shows that they have to use a "passbook of existence"  and that even when they try their best they have no escape. They can't seem to get out of this OPPRESSION, and injustice. It also shows that the whites immediately thinks of them as a thief, without stopping to think that they are still human which is an example of WHITE SUPREMACY, and white privilege.
6. Answer: We think that he wrote this poem because he wanted the whites to know his perspective of how they are treating them and that they don't like the DISCRIMINATION and OPPRESSION. This poem is also related to how this black mans life is. in the stories that we are reading racial inequality shows a lot.

2: The irony of the poem is when the man dresses up in the same way as every one the be treaded the same.

3:The tone in the poem is black discrimination because the man is referred as a thief at the end of the poem. this shows how all black people are considered a thief.
 
4; The tone affectes the story because in the way that every day black man will go to work expecting to get mistredead because of the color of their skin. This is important because life should be as miserable as it was for the black community. 
   5.Because they are saying this in a strong way, that this would not be considered as a speech, but a protest. also the poem shows how day to day life if for a black man. 

6:I think they wrote this because they wanted the whites people to know that they are not enjoying their lives. Also in a format of a prostest to show how they are tried of being mistredead.

2: He woke up in the morning, dresses as a gentleman so he can be treated as the same.

3: The tone of the man in the morning
is nervous but also confident, because the man is afraid of the
white supremacy but also confident.

4:  At the beginning, the tone sounded confident and proud, but at the end the tone changes into a naive tone, because of the white privilege.

5: This could be considered as a protest poem, because the poem is about racism and needs to be fixed.

6: I think the poet wrote the poem to persuade people to stop comparing black and whites just because of their different culture, and to make them realize all the people are the same.

This poem connects with the issues from the stories were reading because, they show how people were treated differently based on their race. An example of this, is how the man from the poem was dressed in a formal way, yet still was treated like a "thief". In the book Out of Bounds, the girl was able to steal oranges, without getting scolded, as she was white. The black boy on the other hand, got punished and beaten, for doing the exact same thing. This shows the discrimination between different races at the time.  (Page 14-15)

2. We believe the irony of this poem, is how the man dressed the same way as everyone else would, in hope of being respected, but was still treated the same. He was called a thief under his clothes, as if he was trying to fool the people.

3. We would describe the tone as passive-aggressive. We know this because, the officer was stern, and "scrutinized" him, as if he was an animal. The lady accused him of being a thief, and we can tell she had this racist judgment because the man's race. 

4. The tone changes throughout the poem. In the beginning, the officer is strong and confident. He sees himself as a higher position, possibly because of his white supremacy mindset. Next, at the end, the women has a sort of irony in her voice. We can tell this from "Ha! Ha!"; she feels like if she figured something out, making this racist comment towards the man.

5. This could be considered a protest poem because, he's showing the reality of his white supremacist world, which many are afraid to hear. He is also making a call to action, and how he lives in a world of oppression, because he was born a darker skin color. It's interesting to see how words have such a big impact.

6. As we have said above, he wrote this poem to show the reality he lives in. 2- The irony in this poem is how he says, "I showed the passbook fo my existence." this shows a lot of irony because he is alive, but if he didn't have the passbook he wouldn't exist.

3- We would describe the tone of this poem to be very disappointing because it's sad how people could just assume that he was a thief just from being black and wearing nice clothes, which is also a lot of discrimination against the black people.

4- We believe that the tone does change from the beginning to the end of the poem. The poem starts off with a happy tone, he was dressing up nice and he was happy, but the tone changes after he was stopped and told he was a "thief", which is like white supremacy.

5-  This could be a protest poem because even if it doesn't show that he protested for his rights,  he was trying to show how oppressed his race was and what was happening back then and is still happening now-a-days.

This poem and the stories connect because they are about racism, apartheid and white privilege, which are all consequences of white supremacy.

2. The irony of this poem is how he does the same thing as white people but he is frowned upon and called names because of his race. For example, the women that called him a thief was probably wearing fine clothes. She is discriminating him because of his race.

3. The tone of this poem is despairing and depressing because he is stuck in a very sad situation and he cant get out. He is stuck in a very bad situation because of the oppression of his race.

4.  The tone changes from a happy tone to a sad tone. It starts off with him getting up and putting some good clothes. Suddenly, he is called names and needs a document just to go to a normal work day. His day goes from good with no white supremacy to bad because of him being oppressed.

5. This poem is a protest poem because it shows how oppression and  discrimination affects a normal persons life.

We can see that this poem as well as the stories represent injustice and racism as well as the stereotypes given to people of certain races. In the poem, the man is treated as a thief for no reason except his skin color. In all the Out of Bounds stories you can see this  racial stereotyping as well.

You can see the irony in this situation when in the beginning we can see that he is an official gentleman with his "white shirt, tie, and suit"  yet he is treated as a poor thief when the commissionaire says "what do you want!?" and the lady shifts her bag the other way. The Commissionaire says it more directly and plainly while the "madam" discreetly shifts her bag. Nowadays, we can see that there are more of these discreet, quiet white supremacists around the world just like the "madam" in the story.
3. / 4.
The tone throughout the poem varied quite a bit and at the beginning, everyone was treating him in an obviously unfair way shouting at him,  checking passbooks, and treating him badly in general. At the end of the poem however, there is a  passive - aggressive tone where the "madam" discreetly and quietly shifts her bag to the other side I think the man felt inferior and small compared to the lighter-skin "madam". This is an example of white supremacy and racism as it shows that everyone is treating him badly just because of his skin color.

We can see that this poem shows the injustice and unfairness of apartheid from the point of view of this man and I think it served to bring awareness and to let people know how he and thousands of others like him felt about other people judging him and not treating him the same way as well as not having the same rights and spaces to himself.

I think the poet wanted to provide a point of view from a person who is treated unfairly because most texts show things from a third person view showing the general gist of things.
