Whiskey Rebellion

The whiskey rebellion was a revolt against the first federal tax by the American government in western Pennsylvania. Alexander Hamilton had implemented a tax on Whiskey as part of his five-point plan to start a national economy. The forces consisted of backwood settlers far away from the large coastal cities where anti-federalism sentiment was common. It showed how many citizens were against the large national governments able to tax all its citizens. Many people thought the tax was very similar to the taxation implementations of the 1760s and 1770s brought in by the tyrannical King George III. Another George; George Washington led 13,000 troops to the rebellion with very little lose of life. However this was a stark contrast between how the constitution's government handled the whiskey rebellion and how the Articles of confederation couldn't handle Shay's rebellion.
