         <description><![CDATA[<div>- With acculturation, ELs must give up their culture in order to adapt to their new environment.  <br>- Cultural level racism along with ethnic racism. There is always a dominating culture.<br> - Tests that confuse English proficiency with academic proficiency. <br>- ELs face levels of depression and anxiety. ex: Translating for parents, having to fit in at school. Added pressures which impacts educational outcome. Economic status and immigrant status.<br>- Intersectionality: race, class, ethnicity, immigration status, citizenship, language<br><br>How to support:<br>- Changing mentality on how we want to participate in our student's lives. <br>- Checking our assumptions about parent involvement. Is it cultural? Do parents have time?<br>- Sending home texts/emails/documents in their native language<br>- Using different access points for students<br><br></div>]]></description>
