I chose this standard as the one I think I am the most comfortable with because it deals with setting goals. At our school we are required to have students set goals and then reflect on those goals. I have not embedded much technology with this as to date but that is one of my own goals for this year. I have a digital data notebook for each student that I am going to have them track their goals. This class is propelling me in the right direction to include the technology component so that students become empowered using technology to reflect and begin to customize their learning.

I chose this standard as the one I am not comfortable with but want to become comfortable. This standard focuses on students becoming problem solvers. I think this flows smoothly with the first standard. I like that it has students collect data, analyze data, and represent data digitally. I want to help students become proficient with data from the goals they set.

We practice troubleshooting and they have a choice with many assignments on how to reach objectives. They use technology to seek feedback and use it to collaborate to increase comprehension or to improve their writing.

This is the standard I would like to become more comfortable with. This standard asks students to use a variety of technologies within a design process to
identify and solve problems by creating new, useful or imaginative
solutions. I think this is a tall order, but an achievable one. Students need more practice solving open ended problems. I think that is what really makes up this standard.

I am most comfortable with this standard. Our students choose a goal for the year (what can they improve from last year) as well as a reading goal. Students reflect on their goal during three separate times during the school year. Assessing their reading level using benchmarks and NWEA scores help students to help customize their learning to help support the learning process.

Most of my middle school students do not realize the permanence of their actions. Students have been in trouble for bullying because the victim brings in the digital proof to school. I'm not sure if they are mentally mature enough to grasp that the internet is f-o-r-e-v-e-r. I also need to teach them to cite their sources. Plagiarism is obviously apparent at the middle school level. Students need to be taught paraphrasing and summarizing skills.

We do this with regard to tests scores (NWEA and MStep) and learning targets. We use standards based grading at my school so students are becoming used to the idea of measuring their proficiency in terms of skills and ability rather than traditional grades.
I encourage my students to choose different formats for demonstrating their proficiency based on their interests rather than simply relying on traditional tests.

Being a good digital citizen is something we all need to be aware of and learn to positively communicate with others. I think a lot of lessons can always be directed towards this standard. For example, using an online discussion board on any topic, students need to know how to responsibly reply with appropriate comments even if they disagree with a point or comment. They need to always be ethical and fair with regards to technology.

While I have no doubt that they have the capabilities, the resources, and the skill sets to creatively use an assortment of digital tools (probably far more than I know), I fear that they lack the initiative to branch out and do it for themselves. My students are actually quite good at following directions- but without direction, they begin to struggle. Asking them to creatively use and select these tools on their own will be more difficult for them than it would seem to be on the surface.

Rachel Vincler In my fourth grade classroom, I feel like this standard is one that needs to be modeled and highlighted with multiple lessons and student practice. My students have never known a time without technology and an on-line presence. They do not realize the permanent consequences of their words and posts.

My 4th grade students do best with this standard. The students have been using technology integrated education since preschool and they know the power of technology in their learning. They know there are different programs to help target different learning goals and they are eager to try them all out. They do enjoy using the different forms of technology and I'd like to continue to integrate it into many subject areas.

I think my students would need more guidance in this standard. My students are hesitant to contribute constructively when working in groups. They would need more confidence in digital tools as well as confidence in the subject in which they are working with.
