         <description><![CDATA[<div>PKU is caused by mutation in the gene that helps create the enzyme called phenylalanine hydroxylase. This disease is found on the 12 chromosome of the body. It happens when their are mutations for both alleles of the gene for phenylalanine hydroxylase.</div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>A PKU test is done a day or two after birth. It is done 24 hours after birth to make sure the baby has had protein to ensure the best results. A nurse or lab technician collects some drops of blood from the baby's heel or arm. The laboratory then tests the blood for metabolic disorders including PKU.</div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>The main way to treat PKU is to eat a special diet that limits the intake of foods containing phenylalanine. They usually have to take a special formula called Lofenalac. When the baby is old enough to eat solid foods it needs to avoid foods with high protein.</div>]]></description>
