Someone with a negative view of their sense of self is more likely to have a negative sense of ethnic identity and race because they will see everything as being negative and might not envision the positive side of things; they will always want to tie themselves to the negative and not the positive outlook on life.

Do you think that the spirit of Ubuntu is alive and well today in African American culture?
I really do not think that the spirit of Ubuntu is still alive and well in the African American community because we don't really have unity and there is also a lot of selfishness in our community as well.
2. Compare and contrast in detail and provide examples of any parallels/similarities that you have been able to identify between African cultures and African American culture. Has this concept of Ubuntu changed your worldview at all? Explain.
I think that African culture and the African American community has some similarities within culture, and economic similarities as well. I think that Africans have endured slavery and colonization while African Americans have dealt with oppression. I fell that both cultures come together to fight racism and oppression.

1. The first measure that I chose is Neonatal Measures, which construed of the birth place of self, siblings, natural parents, grandparents, and extended family. Ethnic origins of extended family; ancestral lineage, etc. I chose this measure because i Grew up knowing exactly when and where I was born, I also had both parents in the home with my siblings and my grandparents were always around as well.
2. The second measure that I chose is Situation-Contextual measures, it consists of home-family, work, education, community, recreation, ceremonial, religious, spirituality, etc. I chose this measure because my home and family means everything to me. Spending time with my family at home brings me joy and happiness.
3. The third measure is Behavioral Measures, this consists of the language use patterns, friendships and acquaintance affiliate patterns. Print and electronic media use patterns, music, clothing, and food preferences. Participation in cultural and religious activities. Membership in mutually beneficial societies and clubs etc. I chose this measure because I love to be surrounded by people and things that resonate with me and enable me to connect with myself and allow me to have better insight as to who I am.
4. The fourth measure that I chose is Self-Identification. It is the self-identification of a preferred ethnic group. Assessment of own acculturation of own acculturation status. Real and aspired self-concept. Value preferences. Role models and preferred reference groups. Own group affiliations and our group associations. I have chosen this measure because everything that I do and feel is because of my ethnic background and being apart of the African American community.

An example of sexism was "being told that don't look like a lesbian based on your appearance". An example of racism was "you do well in school because you're Asian".
2. No, I do not think that we live in a post-racial society because racism is still very much present today.
3. My personal definition of race is sharing the same physical traits and characteristics as a group of people that may resemble you. I think that race is a social construct because it is based on what you are identified as by another person.
4. An interesting point that was made during this assignment was that race is determined by how others view you and not how you view yourself.
5. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FS4DGri-NBo
6. What would you say are the psychological consequences of experiencing subconscious racial slights as a person of color?

"We have also found that micro-aggressions tend to affect problem-solving ability of the individuals in classrooms; work productivity goes down. And earlier, you were talking about health differences - that people who are recipients of greater amounts of micro-aggressions tend to have poorer physical health. They are likely to have high blood pressure, extreme vigilance that they have to deal with in terms of their autonomic nervous system."

2. What stereotypes are perpetuated when racial microaggressions are thrown around towards a person of color?

Microaggressions are being thrown around by the person giving compliments and them being surprised that people of color can be bright, or intelligent because that's not the way black Americans are, and that you're must be an exception. "And it allows that person to hold onto the stereotype that African-Americans are unintelligent, inarticulate - and all the negatives that go with it. But they are not aware of this. And this is the thing that makes micro-aggression so difficult to deal with. It's invisible to the person delivering it."

3. Considering Intersectionality, what other issues does this theme affect in the African American community?

Businesses that don't consider intersectionality in diversity and inclusion programs may ultimately lose out from high staff turnover. There is greater wage inequality, while white women in the US earn 81 cents for every dollar a white man earns, the same figure for American Indian, Alaska Native, Black, African American, and Hispanic women is 75 cents. There is lack of personal development, research shows that Black women have less access to training, have received less mentor ship and sponsorship, and have less frequent opportunities to interact with senior leaders. These all result in fewer opportunities to develop their careers, compared to white women. There is hiring discrimination and inequalities in unemployment, intersectionality also affects who is on the job market, and who is hired.
