Share interesting facts about certain cultures that are involved in the history that is being discussed.
Allow guest speakers to come in and discuss their personal experiences that are from the cultures that are being discussed in the lesson (Books, history, etc.)
Have students write or create a presentation about their cultural background and allow each of them an opportunity to share in front of the class.
Show videos, movies, and music that are appropriate for the age group and classroom that highlight different cultures. (Documentaries, short stories, music)

Culturally Responsive Teaching Methods

1. Ask the students that are from different cultures to share their personal experiences so that their peers can understand that there are distinct differences among one another.

2. Assign group projects and select the groups that will positively help each student grow and learn about the topic and from one another.

3. Ensure that the classroom, lessons, and overall demeanor are accepting for all cultures.

4. Make sure students are given a full lesson on the different cultures that can be and are included in the lessons that are being taught.

Fostering a Multicultural Classroom Environment

1. Having classroom decorations for significant days or events from different cultures (Holidays, significant events, etc.)

2. When proposing ideas for projects and assignments like book reports, be sure to include ideas for books that have authors from many different cultures.

3. Have students make a craft that shows their cultural differences that can be displayed in the classroom.

4. Anytime a conflict may happen to arise, ensure to take time apart to discuss how the differences between one another can bring us together and become a strength instead of a weakness.

Engagement with Families and Community

1. Attend board meetings and ensure that families from all backgrounds are included in the decision-making process of the school board.

2. Help with fundraisers and nonprofits that are inclusive of multiple cultures.

3. If a student’s parents are bilingual and have a tough time speaking English, try to have a translator there to help the parents communicate their wants and needs for their children appropriately.

4. Be sure to make myself available to parents and guardians in any way possible (Cell phone, Email, social media, etc.)
