According to R. Schütz, Words of transition are some of the many expressions used to identify the conecction between two or more ideas in a text or on a conversation. They can be conjunctions, adverbs, prepositions etc, that are useful to stablish a logical connection between phrases and ideas. The right use of this category of words brings to your argument more solidity and grace, says the author.

Schütz, Ricardo E.

As the great english teacher, Eduardo Gafa, well explained, the category of conjunctions called CONTRAST is used to express the meaning of opposition of ideas: "(...) uma coisa vem pra cá👈🏼 e a outra vem pra cá👉🏼(...)". The main idea that we have to have in mind when we use such conjunction is that both arguments must be the opposite of each other. Let's use a simple example with the words "dirty" and "wash":
"I washed my hands however I feel like they're still dirty".
In the box "Contrast - examples" we show a cut of a video where Eduardo explains in detail about other ways of expressing contrast.

The second type of conjunction is called CONDITION. The most famous word of transition of this category is the "IF". It is so useful in the daily communication that there are 4 different ways to use the term "IF" that will bring to the text or discussion different meanings. Besides this term, there are a plenty of other terms that can be applied to the sentences we want to create that might improve our arguments. In the next box, "Condition - examples", we show a cut of a video where Eduardo explains in detail about other ways of expressing condition.

When it comes to REASON, the idea to be expressed is the cause of something, the thing or circumstance that made it happen. Common words to express such category are "BECAUSE" and "SINCE" which can be used both at the beginning or in the middle of a sentence. Normally, using this kind conjunction is vital when giving any sorts of explanations. Furthermore, there is a simple, yet informative video about the topic available in this box (watch until 15:15min).

RESULT conjunctions are normally used to link two clauses, and are, therefore, used in the middle of the sentence.
Their meaning, opposed to the REASON conjunction, refers to the consequence of something, and can be expressed by words such as "THEN" as in the example "I was feeling bad, 'THEN' i decided to stay in bed" or "SO" as in "There's nothing to do 'so' you can leave now". These examples were better explored in the video by teacher Eduardo Gafa, referenced in this box (watch until 19:56min).

When two things occurs together, we instantly think about simultaneity. The main idea about Simultaneity words is refer to two or more actions that are occurring in the same time.

The easiest way to understand this idea is in a example: let suppose that i play games at the same time that i listen to music. We can connect those ideas in a phrase using words of 'simultaineity'.

So, another way to say that is: 'While i'm playing games, i use to listen to music!"
