Odysseus successfully strings the bow and fights and kills all the suitors.

 "Odysseus and his men are compared to falcons who show no mercy to the flocks of birds they pursue and capture. Soon the room is reeking with blood. Thus the battle with the suitors comes to an end, and Odysseus prepares himself to meet Penelope."

Athena uses her powers to heal Odysseus and make him look better for Penelope when he gets home.
" Athena lent him beauty, head to foot. She made him taller, and massive, too, with crisping hair in curls like petals of wild hyacinth but all red-golden."

Odysseus returns home and him and Penelope continue and build on their love.  Athena makes peace with the townspeople who are angry because of what Odysseus did.
