The Inuit value that helped me guide is that at practicum is using the term piliriqatigiik, meaning working together even if it’s not about the children helping us. Educators helping each other is a big accomplishment they can do because if one educator try and do it, they would obviously need help because of the ratio of the kids and staff that are present. And when they plan an activity they want to host or do together to teach the children is what they do best in working and helping each other. There is a lot of other Inuit values but i like that one the most, even when we arent at practicum or at the daycare, i like working together with my classmates to see how we would have to do it.

Inuuqatigiitsiarniq = respecting others, caring for people, relationships.

This value guided me during the tough moments in my practicum placements. It reminded me to see every situation with kindness, patience, and respect - to walk away if I was ever in situations where I don’t have control over. When I felt overwhelmed or unsure, I tried my best to remember and use this value - to treat everyone with good intentions whether they’re children, co-workers, families and myself. This has helped me build stronger relationships and better communication skills in the childcare facilities/daycares and in classroom. I also learned that it is all about connecting with children first (observing) and everything else comes along after.
