Focusing on all three areas (rural, urban, education) will result in lesser progress and less achievement than just focusing on one or two.

Mikey: I agree that some of his visions are going to be hard to be achieved. It's hard to rely on the "Imagination" of the American people to reach the

Thomas: I agree that within that statements, LBJ was commenting on the current cultural status of the United States. At the time, he saw the US as a pillar of freedom and art. Citizens could share their thoughts through art as they pleased. However, he also saw how quickly that privilege could be taken away.

He wants people to no longer be in poverty and national parks to be safe.
Heel: The problem with this plan is that cities will expand and there will be more demand for resources and goods. This will only make pollution and destruction of nature get worse.

Everett: I definitely agree with the eye portion. It seems as though LBJ stressed that he wants the US to be rid of poverty and to bring up education from the document we read.

It's a hope to see opportunities taken advantage of, to see new ideas, creations, innovations, etc.
Achilles Heel: It's a lot at once, and it's not nearly as easy of a goal to achieve than he makes it out to be. The people need to be in agreement with this idea of a Great Society, or else no changes will occur.
Jillian: Alyssa, your summary of LBJ's "eyes" was very similar to mine and I agree with what you are saying because I think his entire speech was centered around improving the lives of people.

The government can pass as many laws as they want but if the American public isn't convinced that the Great Society is a feasible goal, his vision will fail.

Everett: You´re achilles heel is definitely accurate. Republicans in favor of laissez-faire wouldn´t be super supportive of giving everyone a chance - and an increase in education + other infrastructure reforms would lead to more taxes and not everyone enjoys that.

Kaitlyn: Why do you think
LBJ made these lofty promises if he knew he would face fierce opposition from Republicans?

When talking about a Great society he means a society that has freedom but is still continuing to improve itself, because it's never perfect. One weakness that his plan could have is the many racial tensions that still exist at this time that would get in the way of everyone having complete freedom.
Eyes: By a Great Society it seems that he means that it is a society that is constantly improving itself in order to protect the rights of citizens in the United States.
Achilles Heel: One problem that could impact this is racism in the United States, because of the fact that racism is a mindset that is harder to change than

Kayla: Patrick, I agree with your description of Johnson's vision because it really captures his definition of liberty and how it was hindered by the racial tensions of the era.

Arguably unattainable and unrealistic goals for the amount of individuals and the large nation.

Ajay: I agree with you; this idea is too idealistic to practically follow through on it

Grant: I agree that he wants a country where everyone has an opportunity, but he isn't necessarily trying to hand out success to people. They still have to work for it.
