The student council members have opportunity to propose and plan events such as service projects, spirit days, family nights, etc. They ask their classmates for ideas so each student in the school has a voice on the council.

Assessments

In the classroom I often had 5th graders help set the success criteria for assessments and projects that would meet the criteria so there would be a choice in what they could do. I also would allow for individuals to propose something different than a project that was assigned as long as it demonstrated their learning on the topic.

Connection between self-efficacy, agency and engagement

When people have high self-efficacy, they are more likely to engage in activities because they believe they can succeed in them. Belief in yourself can result in increased motivation and persistence and therefore engagement.

When people have a sense of agency, they feel empowered to and pursue their goals. This sense of autonomy and control can drive engagement because there is a greater sense of ownership over their actions.

When individuals have high self-efficacy and agency, they are more likely to feel engaged because they believe in their abilities to succeed and have the autonomy to pursue their interests actively.

Research suggests that individuals with higher levels of self-efficacy and agency they are more willing to tackle challenges, persist in the face of obstacles, and take initiative to pursue their goals.

Music Class

Student get opportunities to compose their own melodies, choose lyrics, and choose movements for songs. We also have class agreements and everyday we pick one as a class to focus on and improve on, like using instruments correctly, working together, listening to others.
