The Qing Empire declined trade with the Europeans

A Qing Emperor Qianlong declined a request from Great Britain to allow trade between the two countries, restricting free trade immensely. This proved detrimental in the future when they learned about technological advancements in Europe the hard way. The thing is, these restrictions to interior trading and close neighbors are, well, restricting. Merchants should have the ability to go into other empires and share resources and inventions. Why did they restrict western trade so much more than their trade with their neighbors?

East India Company Scandals

The British East India Company was quite violent, "unethical", and maybe even corrupt. Actually, it was. The company was caught bending the laws subtly through parliament to benefit themselves. Also, they used sheer violence to seize chunks of Indian empires and to enhance trade. The company was then caught performing the world's first corporate lobbying scandal, using it's own shares to buy parliamentarians. How could this have been prevented, and why wasn't it?

The Mughal Empire Trade Rules

the Mughal Empire was very encouraging of trade but very loose with trade laws. One of their main reasons that caused the the empire to decline was allowing to many other countries to open trade centers (ex: french and portugal) and slowly started to open more trade center moving up north which gave them a foot hold against the Mughals and took over Mughals. Now we are in the 1700's and you are the King/ruler of the Mughal Empire, why do you have such loose laws and allow other countries to open up trade centers.

Jahan spent too much money on lavish goods for himself, fancy buildings and military projects which caused him to raise taxes. Is this really fair to tax paying citizens who don't vote for their leader to have to pay an increase of taxes for something that does not even benefit them. Imagine not voting for your leader and being a poor farmer and then having too pay a premium of taxes so Jahan can have a gold plated toilet! How can you justify this!

One of their strict laws where that they restricted trade with the westerners, and also put heavy fines/taxes on foreign trade. This law also stated that the only port allowed to have foreign commerce was Guangzhou. Do you think the Qing empire would have been more successful opening up trade ports more and not making harsh rules on western trade?
