A couple of years ago, my wife and I got the chance to travel.  The School of Athens is my favorite painting...of all time.  This is a picture I took of the original.  I would like to see Guernica next.  That is my second favorite painting.

Therefore, going on a trip with my family is one of my favorite things to do! Just last September, I took my sister to New York as her surprise birthday gift! We enjoyed it so much that we decided to go again a few weeks ago to experience the Christmas atmosphere there. It was just before the weather got crazily cold, so it was just perfect! This is a picture of a fountain, half frozen, in Bryant Park. I can't wait to go on an another adventure soon.

This is a painting by Diego Rivera called Calla Lily Vendor 1943. Rivera was a prominent Mexican painter; his painting helped established Mexican mural movement in Mexican art. This painting is also one of my favorite paintings. Calla lily symbolizes the Virgin Mary and it has been associated with holiness, faith and purity.

There is actually a wide variety of both unique paintings and artists, depicting this topic. I especially love this painting that shows a Victorian woman not worried about posture or chores, but rather is engulfed in a great book.

My partner and I are coming up on our 10 year anniversary! We just had our 3rd baby in December! In November, I visited the beautiful island of Oahu and spent time in Honolulu while attending the NASPA Western Regional Conference. It was incredible because I was able to learn more about the history of Hawai'i and to meet some of the most amazing colleagues. Shortly after, I traveled to the northeast to attend an orientation in Boston, Massachusetts. To wrap up the year, my partner Collin and I went on a cruise in the Caribbean for the holidays! There is so much beauty in this world and when i think about where I have been and my personal upbringing, I would have never been able to do these types of trips. Being a part of the SDA community at Seattle U has opened so many doors for me and I am just extremely grateful!

We took a field trip to the Seattle Art Museum, which had a collection of Andrew Wyeth's paintings, one of my favorite artists.   I love art in general, and it is fun to see so many postings here related to paintings or other forms of art!  It was especially great to share this experience with nursing students.

My mother is also the most special person in my life. She is my rock, my best friend, my cheerleader, my counselor, my hero. Last month, my family threw my mom a surprise party for her 50th birthday. This event was particularly special because last year, she was diagnosed with Acute Myeloid Leukemia. We spent the holidays and her birthday in the hospital. We thought we were going to lose her. However, being the fighter she is, she won her fight with Leukemia and is in remission. The party was a constant reminder of the blessing my family received in just one year. Last year, we couldn't have fresh flowers because flowers can harbor fungal spores that placed her at risk for infection, but this year, we had lots of beautiful fresh flowers at the party. Last year, we couldn't have cake because she was on a regulated neutropenic diet and didn't have an appetite due to intensive chemotherapy treatments, but this year, we had cake and so much Nigerian food at the party. Last year, we couldn't have visitors because the common cold and flu posed significant health risks, and intensive chemotherapy treatments made her extremely fatigued, but this year, we had friends and family from all over the country and world come to celebrate my mother. Last year, the air was filled with fear, anxiety, tension, worry, fatigue, and depression, but this year, we were joyous, and laughter filled the air.

This one speaks to me especially because all these participants are student activists in Washington DC. Working as a student advocate in the past and now advising a group of students interested in affecting meaningful change makes this image so powerful to me because I see the overwhelming power of students in solidarity with one another and the power college students have to organize and resist oppression at micro and macro levels.

Moving to Seattle was really the first time I lived so far away from my NYC home. On a whim, we decided to take a holiday themed trip to Costco. I've never done anything remotely Christmasy before so this was a new thing. We brought a big bluetooth speaker and started playing Christmas music of all types. Some other customers assumed we were entertainment but we assured them that this was just us being our loud and obnoxious selves. Going to Costco all decked out in Christmas gear is my first Christmas tradition and so far my favorite.

This started as a group of strangers who all happened to be women/women-identifying people of color interested in fitness, but over time turned into family. We live all over the country but love and support each other unconditionally. Most recently, one of them mailed me a jigsaw puzzle as a gift to help me deal with everything on my plate. I'm very grateful for finding this beautiful group.
