In 2002, Rains suffered a massive brain aneurysm and stroke that initially left him paralyzed. His bestselling 2011 book, "Back to the Summit," describes how he miraculously overcame his paralysis and renewed his commitment to international political and social justice in areas that range from civil rights and economic development to environmental sustainability and health education. He now builds libraries, women's empowerment centers, and economic development projects in many parts of the developing world. With a background as a host in both radio and TV programming, Rains has also produced his own podcast series, the Omer Rains Show, since 2016. This podcast gives him a platform to speak on various national and international social and cultural issues interviewing guests with expertise in a broad spectrum of fields.
