The results clearly evidented that this was a successful method in teaching children about nutrition.

Pickering (2017) tells us that Montessori recognised that children “challenged in learning” had “an unequal development”.
In the diagram taken from Montessori for Children with Learning Differences, we can see this unusual or unequal development indicated; it is shown that the development in the first six years is affected, Pickering (2017) suggests that this would lead to all the other periods of development would also be affected.

  • she discovered the work of a French doctor Jean Marc Gaspard, on the education of deficient children. He looked at deaf, mute children and how they learn. From studying a particular child named victor who had been raised by wolves. He found that the boy possess no language skills and walked on all fours, like the wolves he had previously lived with. he worked with him for 8 years and supported him to help him learn language and many words. Montessori was interested by this work and it inspired her own methodology. She observed many children as individual case studies and made notes and records of the development which ultimately helped her develop the Montessori teaching method .

The learning is student-led and self-paced but they are guided, assessed, and enriched by knowledgeable teachers, their peers, and the nurturing environment.

However, Montessori believed that fantasy or pretend play could be detrimental to a child’s development as the child may struggle to adjust to the real world (Lillard, 2021). Therefore, a Montessori classroom often promotes students to achieve a real life task by playing (Lillard, 2021). For example, instead of playing a game that involved the child baking an imaginary cake, the child would actually bake and decorate a cake in real life. This hands on approach suggests that the child learns and develops useful skills, while engaging their imagination.
