World War two started in September 1939 with the invasion of Poland led by Hitler. The speed that Nazi Germany used during the invasion gained that type of attack the name "blitzkrieg" or "lighting warfare". Ultimately the war started due to Germany needing more land and resources, and ended with the Treaty of Versailles on September 2nd, 1945.

During World War 2 there were two sides to the war. On one side ("the Axis power") there was Nazi Germany, Japan, and Italy. On the other side ("the Allied power") there was the United States, England, and France.

On the morning of December 7th, 1941, the Japanese launched an attack on "Pearl Harbor" which was an American Naval base. On December 8th, 1941, President "Roosevelt" proposed the idea of joining the war, which Congress accepted and the U.S. officially joined the war.

June 6th of 1944 was D-Day, the Allied forces made history by deciding to start what was considered the biggest "invasion" in all of the military. The Operation was given the code name "OVERLORD" and they launched 5 naval assault divisions on the beaches of "Normandy," France. A total of 4,414 Allied soldiers were killed on D-Day itself, and during the battle around 20,000 French civilians became causalities.

Between the years of 1941 and 1945, Nazi Germany's "anti seminists" committed mass genocide against the Jewish people. So many people were dying that FDR created the "war refugee board" and it was made to help out the Axis powers civilian victims. In the end, more than 6 million Jews were killed in very horrific ways.

Because of the genocide, the Allied powers held the "Nuremberg Trials" which was the prosecution of the Nazi leaders, military and important politicians for their heinous acts committed against the Jews.

What was war in the Pacific like?

During WWII the Pacific war claimed the lives of around 25 million altogether from December 7th, 1941 to September 1945.

During this bloody war, the Allied powers came up with a strategy they called "island jumping" or leapfrogging, and it was a strategy that would skip over highly secure military bases that the Japanese and focus on the lightly fortified bases.

Another strategy that was used by the Allied powers was called "firebombing" where they would drop bombs that spread fire. The US hoped that causing damage to the Japanese citizens would take Japan out of the war or that the morale of Japan would suffer. Unfortunately, Japan would continue to keep fighting even after the "firebombings' claimed the lives of 100,000 Japanese citizens. even though many Japanese soldiers started to die throughout the war, Japan refused to surrender. Japan was at the point where they were losing pilots faster than they could train them, so what did the Japanese do? They came up with their own strategy that was called "kamikaze" which was when a pilot would drive their plane nose down into the enemy, killing both the pilot and the enemy.

During the Second World War, American citizens helped their military a lot even if it wasn't directly fighting. They contributed by growing "victory gardens" which was vegetation grown to feed the Allied soldiers. Another way that people outside of the war helped was "Hollywood propaganda". Many of the movies released were "patriotic cries" and Hollywood alone helped America's morale. On the other side, America's political leader, FDR. Incarcerated 125,284+ people of Japanese descent into "Japanese internment camps." from February 19, 1942, to March 20th, 1946 close to 1900 people lost their lives due to the camps and it was the Supreme Court that decided to put a end to it.

During the "Yulta conference," it was decided that Germany would be taking most of the repercussions once the war ended and May 8th, 1945, marked the official start date for "VE Day" which is a celebration of Germany surrendering to the Allied powers in Europe. The same year on August 6 and 9th "the atomic bombs" were dropped. On the 6th "Hiroshima" was bombed and on the 9th it was "Nagasaki", both cities of Japan which shortly after ended the war with Japan surrendering on September 2nd, 1945.
