I liked all the different images that you can choose from and the different templates. I really struggled with trying to figure out how to create our "Superhero" last summer. We were not given any "how to's" on how to make our superhero. I looked up some "how to" videos, emailed the teachers and just tried different things (downloaded images when I couldn't find what I was looking for) until I got it. Since I had a bad experience with Canva, I have not created any assignments for my classroom. When I give students a choice in tech tools, I will allow them to use it if they want to.

I like the students' enthusiasm for this tool. It is active learning.

I dislike how long it takes to pull something all the way together since I am so pressed for time.

A struggle has been having to leave some of the class in my room while I am involved in the room with the green screen. I don't like leaving students unattended at all! For quiet during recordings, I can't have them all in the green screen room.

A solution to this struggle was I got lucky because Ms. Hall joins my class mid-way through, so I felt better once she arrived to be with the students.

Another struggle was discovering we needed "cue cards" for students to read so that they don't keep their heads down reading a piece of paper.

A solution to this problem was I found the backs of laminated posters to be user-friendly with white board markers which erase easily. Also, Ms. Shelton shared two portable white boards with me.

Green screen is possible to use with my English classes as well as journalism. It would be a great culminating project for students to work together to make a video newscast of the course's different units. It would be a dynamic way to prepare for a final exam when we revert to teacher-made exams. In journalism, we used it to create a weekly newscast of announcements both with sound and with captions for when sound is impractical.

I like the fact that it requires student involvement during the few times that I lecture. Often times students tune out or are looking at something else on their computers. The vocabulary review feature also gives another option besides just Kahoot for playing review games.

This time I just tried creating a vocabulary review using Pear Deck and it was surprisingly easy.

The last time I tried to use it I could not figure it out. I will have to spend some more time using the interactive PowerPoint feature before I implement it next year.

I really did not have any struggles using the vocabulary tool. I found a document where I already had the terms listed...I just had to fill in the definitions for them. I was then able to import the list easily.

I would use this tool for vocab review and also during the few times I may lecture to increase student engagement. I really enjoyed it the time that Jessica had us use it during our professional development activity.

-Debbie

1. Google Forms
2. Seemed like it would be an easy app to use to generate a test, and it was. It was user-friendly for sure. Students had no trouble answering questions or accessing. It ran pretty much like all the Google tools.
3. I had trouble getting individual student responses/answers. They were in a spreadsheet form which just made no sense at all to me, why it wouldn't just copy the responses in an easy-to-read display.
4. I solved them by not using the app. It seemed like one of those apps that defeated the purpose, and also it limited me to certain kinds of questions, like multiple choice or very-short answer. If I'm gonna take the time to type all of that in I may as well do it in Google Docs and just grade the old fashioned way I like to grade student responses - with a red marker.
5. "If" I used it, it would only be like a daily quiz or some type of formative assessment . There are other's that I prefer to use than FORMS for that, so I just conclude that it's not for me.

2. I like the fact that you can convert Power Point or Google Slides to be interactive. Creating an interactive slide engages the students and gives them responsibility for their learning. I like that it can be anonymous to the other students. Students would not be concerned to answer questions for fear of embarrassment.

I like being able to insert slides/questions quickly while the presentation is being viewed. This is an advantage as a teacher. We see struggles with the class and incorporate review material quickly.

3 and 4. I didn't find anything at this point that I dislike . I did have difficulty downloading Pear Deck. If I wanted to convert a Power Point, I am not sure how to do this. Most of my previous presentations are Power Point. It was easy when working with Google Slides.

5. I could use the tool as a review. I would create practice problems for students to answer. I could also introduce a concept and add slides to see if students are understanding the concept.

1. WeVideo

2. I like that it allows students to "hear" their voice, and moves them from being passive learners, to being engaged learners in that it allows them to "create" content. It also is a good tool to use with students that get anxious and nervous when speaking in front of their classmates, or a group of people.

3. I find that it has too many steps when creating and editing something.

4. I did struggle by spending too much time trying to put together a finished video, so I used another tool with my classes.

5. This tool doesn't work for me in my classroom because the editing tools take up too much time. I see it as a tool that is better suited to an individual, rather than a group of students. I choose not to use it because their are other user-friendly tools to use in a classroom setting.
