MANDATORY Why do you want to be a nurse? When did you decide you wanted to be a nurse? Did anyone or anything influence your decision?

Contrary to many of my colleagues, my decision was not dictated by vocation; I simply liked the idea of working in a hospital and being able to help people out, just as how I received help when I was in need because of a rare disease that affected me. To be honest, I originally wanted to apply for the English language Medicine and Surgery course offered by the Tor Vergata University; but since I was firmly convinced that I would have failed the entrance test, I didn't bother trying. Besides, getting in would have meant embarking on a tough six-year journey towards a profession I liked but didn't quite know, because you can never really know something until you actually try it.

I instead diverted to nursing, which still gives me the opportunity to experience working in a clinical setting... without feeling like I'm gambling with my future. I am still considering what to do after this degree (which I intend to get). I like nursing as a career, but I don't think it suits me the same way it might suit some of my course mates who wanted to do it from the beginning. I think I lack something important, but I don't know exactly what. At the same time, I consider the opportunity of learning alongside nurses to be an interesting life experience; for this reason, I plan on completing the course. And since only time can tell what comes after, it could also happen that I will come to enjoy this profession to the point of wanting to do it for the rest of my life. If that is not the case, I will still have archived a degree and a wonderful experience.
To be fair, there is such an amount of things I would like to do and study... the problem is, I only have one life, unlike cats. c:

I have never watched these kind of shows on the long term, mostly because they tend to be too lengthy and over dramatic; and the only book that follows that line that I can think of is "Semmelweis" by Louis-Ferdinand Céline, but I have not read it yet.

I want instead to talk about a related-topic book that I am currently reading; it's titled "Notes on Blindness", and it's by the late John M. Hull, a former professor at the University of Birmingham. In the book, Hull explores his experience with a degenerative pathology which gradually leads him to blindness; as he dives inside the unfaltering darkness that slowly swallows him, he reports all of his thoughts and impressions on blindness and his disability, meticulously answering to many of the questions that able people might have on blindness from the point of view of an individual that was previously able to see; he also reports the variations in his sensitive perceptions as time passes and other senses start overdeveloping in order to compensate for the loss of the sight. It is super interesting to me, not only because he spaces through a wide range of topics, but also because the rare disease I had would have made me blind if not properly cured. I empathize so much with him, and I would recommend his writings to anyone. They are very insightful (not a pun) and not strictly related to ophthalmology and medicine, but rather more personal and descriptive. It's like his
not-so-secret secret diary; in fact, it was originally recorded on audio tapes, and it features dated entries.

Anna, his wife, started crying as the nurse said they had to sedate him with morphine because he was in such pain. The poor thing was desperate. Obviously, I tried to comfort her, but nothing I said could make her feel better.

We managed to spot the first signs of diabetes as soon as she entered the emergency room. With further exams, we were able to confirm the diagnosis of type 2 diabetes before the manifestation of diabetic ketoacidosis.

With the exponential rise of fast food, a massive increment in the rate of obese and severely overweight patients was registered in our hospital.

The doctor told Elia they couldn't operate him unless he lost some weight, so we booked an appointment with a nutritionist.
Write or record an essay about why you would (or would not) like to be a clinical tutor in future. (100 words)

Clinical tutoring is the fundamental of Nursing students' universitary career. Having positive experiences with easy-going, available and highly motivated clinical tutors - both in regards to students' education, patients' care and self improvement - can make or break your perception of the clinical setting, as well as your general manuality with Nursing Care procedures.

Since I was a child I have always liked play pretending I was a teacher with my friends; it’s something I was - and still am to this day - passionate about. The idea of being able to transfer knowledge from me to someone else has always been exciting to me.

Even now I often sit with younger sister whenever she has troubles understanding any school topic, and I try to break it down to her and make it more interesting with remarkable examples, ensuring she has processed correctly the logic behind any notion. I think the best approach to teach someone anything is creating a calming and most importantly friendly environment, then engaging with them practically by stimulating their critical thinking abilities. What I mean is, they should not be sitting there, passively listening to me while I explain.

The action of teaching to me has to be backed up by scientific research on how the human brain functions, which means by psychology, sociology, pedagogy and such, in order to educate efficiently others.

Those have to involved any time when teaching something, clinical setting included, as students are the future.

In short, I like the idea of teaching what I know to another person, and I would love to do so in the future as a clinical tutor. I would also research what are the most impactful ways to promote the memorization and understanding of informations, as well as the most recent guidelines on procedures.
