The Paralympic courts were made to where all athletes can participate. For example, in swimming, some Paralympic athletes might not be able to start the race by diving, therefor for the athletes that can, would be getting a faster start if diving was accessible. In Volleyball, some athletes might not be able to stand up, making it fair to invent sitting volleyball and making the court great for it. To find out what courts are more similar, scale factor had to be needed.

When making changes to the court, they had to make the size scaled down, mostly to scale, to make the games a little easier to get around. The way you can determine the similar courts is by applying those rules to see which court follows them, so which ones are to scale. These changes will make the games more accessible by lowering the distance that must be traveled to do the objective of the sport.

What factors were considered when making changes to the game or the court? the scale is a factor that needs to be considered. How did you determine which courts are “more similar”? you find the scale. In what ways do changes make the game accessible? small changes that make the game more accessable for more people.

I think a factor considered when making changes to the court was that the court kept the same proportions. For both soccer courts, the length is exactly 2 times the length. This was not the same for the volleyball courts and they did not stay proportional for both courts. This means that the soccer courts were the most similar because they had the same proportions and they were just changed by a scale factor of 4/9. I think these changes make the game more accessible because the players do not have to travel as far and as fast when playing. For example, in sitting volleyball, it is harder for the athletes to move around, so a smaller court makes the game more accessible.

Some factors that were taken into consideration when making the courts is how mobile the players are, and what tools they need to use to be able to play. My partner and I decided which courts were similar by finding the scale factor. The changes to the game make it more accessible by making it a shorter distance to move around in, making the rules more lenient to the sport and players. - Ayanna T

When changing the courts and fields, something they most likely had to take into consideration was how much ground the athletes could cover. As an example, for many of the sports many of the athletes have very little mobility in their legs so they modified the courts so they wouldn't have to move as much or even at all. When determining what courts were "similar" we used a scale factor to see if the courts were the same shape but different sizes, like for the soccer field the scale factor was 4/9. Lastly, these changes make the games more accessible because it makes it more fair and balanced towards the paralympic athletes so the don't have to do twice as much to play the same sports as non-paralympic athlets.
