Do we really see the true message thru technology? Do we really feel the emotions given if it's not face to face? Do we really care? or we just say we're with them, together, but the reality they're alone.
Sherry Turkle is the speaker of TED talk for the topic "CONNECTED but ALONE". She talked about the edge of technology, she talked about how it became a bridge to a distance between many people. Technology made our lives easier. That you can feel it just like a warm hug from your love ones. We always have our gadgets with us. In just one tap, life happens. We have different lifestyle according to our needs. We choose what we want. Technology made it easier for us to socialized even miles apart. We can see our friend to video calls, we can talk and hear them through call. We can send money using our mobile transfers. We can send gift from our online shopping's. We can hang-out with our friends all at one. But I will ask? Do we even know what we are missing? A text saying "sending your warm hugs", but can we really feel the warmth of that hug? We say to a friend that is crying that we're here for them but can we really help them wipe their tears and be a shoulder to cry on? Can we really send the message with the proper emotions you want to send? because what I have seen, we are missing a lot and we are being misunderstood many times. Some people uses technology when they're alone but if we really see the value of communication we will know that gadgets are the main distractions of companionship. Sherry said, robots will soon be our companions. Yes, there's a probability of that if we can't control ourselves, our addiction of technology and social media. Technology hides us from reality, we can say to a friend that we are okay but we are totally not. I think also, one of the reason of having many teenagers experiencing depression is because of technology. They depend too much in technology that they set a high standard from what they saw in the social media and they compared it to their peers. Once that these standards can't be met by their peer it's hard for them to adjust. Friendship loses it's real value. The fun is missing. We tend to say it's safer to play using gadgets but in reality physical activities outdoor is much healthier. Technology changed us from the what we so called the "old way/old school".
There's no one to blame because people are getting wiser and modern. We are experiencing a very advance technology very far away from what our ancestor had experience. As we always say "Change is the only permanent thing in this world" but I say balance is the key. We can't stop evolving, we can't stop creating, we can't stop innovating, we can't stop changing but we can start balancing our priorities and we need to be more sincere on what we do. We can use technology wisely but we can show affection sincerely by showing that we can balance our lives correctly. Technology can make us send a message but can't show how we really value relationship among people.
