The three professionals that I interviewed were staff and parents in my school. They interviewees were the school counselor, Ms Jones, a 2nd grade teacher, Mrs Bullock and a parent, Mr Vance-Thorton. My reasoning for choosing these people was to gain a wide range of perspectives. Each person has a different role that directly effects every student. We work in low income and high poverty school with a lot of challenges. I believe that this interview allowed me to closely examine each question and think about how these aspects impacts the school's culture and academic climate.

Characteristics for Co-Teaching

This question was interesting because there have been much discussion on whether our school should implement co-teaching in the future. I found that my interviewees believed that co-teaching can have positive and negative impacts depending on the characteristics of the teachers. All interviews believed that in order to co-teach, one must be comfortable with releasing power: understanding that he or she is not the only lead teacher in the classroom. Mrs. Bullock stated "I have a hard time allowing someone to come in and make demands and changes to how I do things, not because I can't accept ideas but I'm used to the way I do things and how my classroom flows" The ability to communicate with the co-teacher about everything: class assignments, due dates, lessons, grading, classroom management, etc. Another common characteristic is for the teachers to have flexibility: accepting new ideas and methods of teaching.

Benefits of Collaboration

After examining characteristics of co-teaching, it was no surprise to see a common trend of the benefits of collaboration. Mrs. Jones stated that effective communication was the key to all things. All the interviewees were in agreement that collaboration increased effective communication skills amongst schools. The parent I interviewed stated, "I could tell that teachers in this school interact and communicate a lot because my twins are learning and completing the same assignments even though they are in different classes. I could check one of the twins homework when one twin is missing homework". Another benefit from collaboration is the sharing of ideas and support. Teachers are able to share ideas that may help inside their classes. They are also able to provide support toe each other. Mrs. Bullock and Mrs. Jones both gave a great example of how staff support and share ideas.

Conditions for Collaboration and Consultation

Although all interviewees believed that collaboration and consultation were great strategies to implement into the school, there was a common condition necessary to achieve this: that is time. Time was a big condition necessary to allow educators to collaborate and consult. Educators struggle to balance the time they have for instruction, let along finding time to meet and collaborate with other staff. Mrs. bullock brought about a great idea which was for educators to use their lunch and prep times. When I mentioned it to Mrs. Jones and Mr Vance-Thorton, they were not in agreement. Mr Vance-Thorton stated "Why should teachers have to give up their one time of break to do more work? I know I look forward to my breaks and would want to have it taken away. teachers are already doing so much by holding detention or students luncheons as rewards. They are always giving up their time so that won't necessary be fair".
