The Freedmen's Bureau, established in 1865, played a crucial role in helping the United States transition after the Civil War, particularly in supporting newly freed African Americans. The Freedman's Bureau offered Education, Legal Assistance, Land Redistribution, Support for Black Churches, and many more economic resources for support. Its efforts were often hampered by the limited duration of its mandate, ending in 1872. Nonetheless, the Bureau laid the groundwork for future civil rights advancements and helped transition many former slaves into a free society.

The Fifteenth Amendment, ratified in 1870, played a crucial role in renovating the United States after 1865 by granting African Americans the right to vote. It prohibited states from denying the right to vote based on race or color and it enabled African American men to participate more fully in the politics. This led to the election of African Americans to local, state, and federal offices during the Reconstruction era.

The Gold Rush in California, and silver discoveries in Nevada attracted workers and capital, growing the economy.

One example that changed my mind on U.S. History was the action taken toward westward Native Americans. It was already familiar to me that America was 'stolen land' as it was mostly taken over. Though, Chapter 15 in the textbook brought up the all the treaties made along with the reform policies to give up the land. The true colors that I see are that these were not treaties giving up land in good exchange, but rather Native Americans constantly waving a white flag because of U.S. Military supremacy.

Society traditionally viewed women's primary roles as being wives and mothers, responsible for managing the household and raising children. Many believed that politics was a man's domain. Also, Many politicians and business leaders opposed women's suffrage because they feared it would shift political power.

The United States entering World War I in 1917 during the Progressive Era was a major conflict for several reasons, the Progressive movement as well as the impact on American society and politics. Many Progressives were advocates of peace, international cooperation, and social reform. They were often aligned with movements that opposed war and militarism, seeing war as antithetical to the goals of social justice and progressive change. The entry into WWI was seen as a betrayal of these ideals.

Prohibition was driven by the temperance movement, which saw alcohol as a source of moral decay and social problems such as crime, domestic violence, and poverty. Reformers, including many Progressives, believed that banning alcohol would lead to a more moral and orderly society.

Emmett Till, a 14-year-old African American from Chicago, was visiting relatives in Money, Mississippi, in August 1955. He was falsely accused of whistling at Carolyn Bryant, a white woman. As a result of these accusations, Till was abducted and shot by Bryant's husband, Roy Bryant, and his half-brother. Till's body was then thrown into a river, and was found three days later. The false accusations and murder of Emmett Till in 1955 serve as an example of how racial violence was inflicted in response to protests and movements for civil rights. Till’s case, along with other acts of violence during the Civil Rights Movement, demonstrates the extreme of how American society went to control racial segregation and white supremacy.
