Bookworm Club (Year 2 & 3) - Tiny Mermaid (Imaginary Writing) by Edenland Centre

The Tiny Mermaid was swallowed by a large brown cod. In the cod’s belly, she saw the most curious things – bottle tops, chips wrappers, floppy balloon knots … Inside that murky belly, she curled up on a biscuit bag and fell asleep ... Can you predict what happens to the mermaid next?

These are my friends!”

The plankton answered, “We are here to save you, Tiny Mermaid.

When the Tiny Mermaid woke up, she thought it was still night time because the cod fish’s tummy was very dark and cold. She slept for many hours. But it was already morning!

One day, Tiny Mermaid decided to do something in return for the cod fish to set herself free. She told the cod fish that if he could let her go, she would pick some shiny pearls from the bottom of the sea. The cod fish’s eyes sparkled, and he agreed. Tiny Mermaid beamed from ear to ear. The cod fish opened his mouth, so that Tiny Mermaid could swim out and go down to the ocean floor to pick the pearls that she promised him. How joyful she was!

Tiny Mermaid swam out and disappeared. The cod fish thought that she had gone to pick the pearls. But she didn’t! The cod fish waited day by day but no matter how long he waited, Tiny Mermaid did not return with the pearls as promised. Finally, the cod fish knew he had been tricked and he was very cross about it.

When Tiny Mermaid woke up, she was at the bottom of the sea. She had no idea how she ended up there. When she swam up to the shore, she saw the cod that gobbled her up. The cod was no longer moving. She tried to push it back into the ocean, but it didn’t move. After trying for hours, the cod was dead. Poor little cod died because he was suffocated by having too much plastic waste in his throat, stomach and gills. Tiny Mermaid guessed when the cod suffocated, he probably opened his mouth and water went into his stomach and he might have coughed her out …

As more and more plastic piled up inside the cod’s tummy, she could not breathe so she tried to escape. She screamed helplessly. Unfortunately, her voice could not be heard. She tickled the cod’s throat so that it will open its big mouth. Eventually, she was able to escape and was saved.

There was blood coming out from its body. Tiny Mermaid yelled for help but no one came. Then, she found a roll of toilet paper on the beach.
