Location - the Ganges river runs through Northern India and originates in the Himalayan Mountains at the end of the Gongotri Glacier

The Ganges River flows throughout Northern India and acts as a waterway for the people of India. The Himalayan Mountains are a great source of water for the river. Just like the Himalayas act as a water runoff system for the Indus River valley, they also act as a waterway to the Ganges River. This helps give the river more water to flow in the valley and to provide more irrigation for the crops and plants in the area.

This effects the human environment of the Ganges River area because if offers more irrigation and clean water that the people can use for their crops and home amenities.

Location - the highest peak of the Himalayan Mountains in Northern India

The Himalayan Mountains play a very significant role on Mount Everest due to the ecosystem of the region. Mount Everest is a very common tourist destination to go climbing the majestic peaks, and see the white snow on the tallest mountain in the world, but this would not be as amazing to visit without the rest of the Himalayan mountains to help provide a suitable weather pattern for climbing. When climbing Mt. Everest, climbers must be aware of the weather patterns in the area on a specific time of year, this helps Mt. Everest have a beautiful landscape and weather to climb in.

The benefits of the Himalayas affect the landscape and weather of Mt. Everest, which also helps the climbers of the region plan accordingly to the ecosystem and to be aware of the environment.

Location - the Gangotri Glacier is located in the Uttarakashi District in the Himalayan Mountains, India

The Gangotri Glacier is a crucial component to the water sources in India, and the Himalayan mountains help the Gangotri Glacier because it provides more water and snowfall for the glacier to freeze in the colder months. In the warm, summer months, the glacier will melt the extra snow it took, which empties into the water basins nearby.

The Himalayas helps the glacier because they offer snow harsh winters and a large amount of snowfall which helps the glacier from melting due to global warming.

Location - the Indus is located in the Tibetan Plateau, and travels through Pakistan

The Himalayan Mts play an effective role on the Indus River location because the Himalayas create a ‘natural water source’ from the snow runoff and water from glaciers that empty into the Indus. This is significant to the location because the more water the Himalayas deposit into the Indus, the more clean water will be accessible to create irrigation sources and provide cleaner drinking water.

The people of the Indus River Valley and their agriculture benefit from this because it offers cleaner water for the environment to grow. It offers cleaner water for the people of the valley to drink, and gives the crops irrigation to grow.

The population density of South Asia would look different if the Himalayan Mountains did not exist because the population map would show a difference in distribution of population in the area. This ties to movement, because if the mountains did not exist, the population would have moved around the area, which makes traveling quicker. This also affects traveling in Southern Asia on the Silk Road because if the Himalayas were not in the way of the Silk Road’s path, there would be more trade routes in the area. The people during the time of the Silk Road could have traded goods and exchanged languages with one another along the road if the mountain region was not already occupying the land.
