Emotionally disturbed students can be victims of abuse or trauma. They can appear depresssed or distracted and a teacher can refer them to counseling or advise parents of the classroom behavior that is raising red flags. As a teacher, we can become a trusting adult figure they can confide in. Emotionally disturbed children can show signs of depression, anxiety, bipolar, eating disorders, or obsessive compulsive disorder. In the classroom, a student might have random outbursts or be antisocial. It is imperative for a teacher to treat this behavior with patience and understanding.
