Matt schlieden was a botanist who studied plants and contributed to the cell theory by concluding that all plants are made up of cells. He declared that cells are the basic building blocks in plant matter. He argued with Theodore Schwann over whether cells came from splitting from other cells, or if they crystallized into existence, he believed that they split from other cells.
