"The point of this language of "good intention" and "personal responsibility" is broad exoneration. Mistakes were made. Bodies were broken. People were enslaved. We meant well. We tried our best. "Good Intention" is a hall pass through life, the pill that ensures the dream."

This indicates that the terminology "good intentions" is used to sweep certain situations and events under the rug with less consequence because it was not the intention. This allows a free conscious that provides an ability to walk carelessly and free of any guilt of the mistreatment of certain groups of people that ent on for so long. The perpetrators claim that these acts of unfairness were simply mistakes while the victims and their ancestors still suffer from the lingering unjustness.

"Then the mother of the murdered boy rose, turned to you, and said," You exist. You matter. You have value. You have every right to wear your hoodie, play your music as loud as you want. You have every right to be you. And no one should deter you from that. You have to be you. You can never be afraid to be you."

To me, this quote translates into a true American legacy. Freedom. This quote from Ta-Nehisi Coates novel, Between The World and Me, implies that as a human in this free country, you cab do what you want. You can be yourself. Nobody should be able to stop you from that and you should not be afraid because it is god's given right to be you. In America, even if you're discriminated against due to your ethnicity or race, does not limit your abilities to be yourself and live in fear. Although it's a harsh reality and most do live in fear of their lives being unrightfully cut short or limited due to misunderstanding, a minor incident, or even nothing at all. But where I think this quote comes into play is that even though one may live in fear and there are things to do to prevent such as limiting your personality and altering appearance to become more appealing to the societal "norm" but one does not have too. It is your right as an American to walk free and be yourself. No one should be afraid.

"The American ought therefore to love this country much better than that wherein either he or his forefathers were born."

This quote portrays the sense of pride the American citizens have for their country. Americans are prideful in their freedom and their liberty. Even if it wasn't their birthplace or the birthplace of their ancestors. People who obtained residence in America would fully forget their origin and fully adapt to the American lifestyle.

"We are calling on all leaders to challenge and change the harmful teachings and practices, no matter how ingrained, which justify discrimination against women. We ask, in particular, that leaders of all religions have the courage to acknowledge and emphasize the positive message of dignity and equality that all the world's major faiths share."

This quote came from author, Jimmy Carter, in his article titled, "Losing My Religion for Equality". This article shows pros and cons about the American lifestyle. As much as it's terrible Carter felt the urge to piece together this article, he still had the freedom of speech to be able too. Carter is free to express his opinion with no consequence due to the constitutional right to freedom of speech. With awareness, things can change. Citizens will read this, it will spread, a fire will start within all the people who want justice and equality. Due to our nation being a Democracy, decisions for America are in the hands of the people. Every law that is passed and every law that is declined is all in favor of the peoples wants and needs.

"Was there ever a nation on God's fair earth civilized from the bottom upward? Never; it is, ever was and ever will be from the top downward that culture filter."

This quote from the article, "The Talented Tenth" By W.E.B DuBois, gets at how there is a more efficient way to build a civilization where no one is forgotten. Unfortunately, America is full of forgotten people. Who's needs aren't met because they simply aren't "worth" the time and energy. And these aren't the wealthy and successful people being forgotten. Their needs might be the most fulfilled out of everyone. But the people who truly need help and the support only the top percentile receives, never receive it. In fact they are looked down upon, viewed as less then. The citizens who are victims of this lifestyle are typically living paycheck to paycheck, struggling keep their house and supply food for their families if they could afford to have one. Unfortunately, this is average for a middle-low income family in America.
