Please note that the program is an endorsement program that adds librarianship to your existing teaching license. It is not equivalent to the Masters of Library Science, which is required to be a librarian in most public and academic libraries.

EDCI 547: Inquiry-Based Instruction: Delve into inquiry-based learning frameworks to design engaging and effective instructional experiences. Foster critical thinking and student curiosity while collaborating with colleagues to meet content and library standards.

EDCI 548: Collection Development: Learn principles of building and maintaining school library collections. Focus on diversity, budgeting, and tailoring collections to the community's needs.

EDCI 549: Reading Promotion: Engage students with diverse reading materials and activities that foster a love for reading. Develop programs to support independent reading and collaboration with classroom teachers.

EDCI 550: Ethics & Advocacy for School Librarians: Understand ethical issues and how to advocate for school libraries. Examine policies affecting intellectual freedom and equitable access.

EDCI 546: School Library Administration: Gain insights into managing a school library, including staffing, budgeting, and program evaluation. Learn practical skills for effective administration.

Section 802: Instruction and Collaboration. Candidates will plan, teach, and assess a unit plan addressed to library standards in collaboration with another educator.

Section 803: Professional Growth Project. Candidates will develop, implement, and reflect on a professional growth project to deepen their learning around a librarian standard.

Program Conclusion: Each semester, candidates will reflect on their learning, provide evidence that demonstrates learning in that standard, and self-assess in collaboration with their assigned mentor. At the conclusion of the program, candidates should demonstrate learning in each standard area.

You may apply for the M.Ed. program at any time and must complete the degree within 6 years of starting your LMC coursework.

Yes, it's required for Montana state law for all students regardless of physical presence, age, or program. If you don't complete it, you will not be able to register for the next semester.

In Fall and Spring semester, 3-credit classes are half-semester in length (8 weeks)
