We are normally in a sort of auto pilot sense of mind as our brain is more focused on other things than what is going on around us as we get from point a to point b.

yes close to 65% of people went all the way with into the lethal dosage of electricity, and most of them did it because they were told to by administrator of the experiment as well as it went up slowly in volts.
